Chapter Nine

That night, Lacey was too tired to confront Lilly about what had happened at the Dinner, so it was a quiet night.

The next morning, Lilly left without a goodbye and Laura pleaded to go to the party.

"Please mom" she pleaded.

"No."

"Please, everyone's gonna be there. I'm gonna be the only one in-present. Please."

"Why?"

"Because, its a popular party and I'll be home by midnight, just please mom" Laura gave her mother the puppy-dog eyes.

"You know what, fine. But" Lacey turned to face her daughter "be home at midnight. No later" she headed for the door.

"Okay, I promise."

"Good."

Lilly walked into her school and saw her best friend and Paige talking.

"Yeah, I was there for like a hot second" Kelsey explained.

"Oh, but it was so fun and-"

"Hey guys" Lilly butted in.

"Oh boy" Paige said as she flipped her hair.

"Whats wrong? Cat got your tongue?"

"Do you see any cats around here" Paige looked around the school floor.

Lilly rolled her eyes "never mind."

"Whatever" Paige started walking away "oh and Kelsey..."

Kelsey looked up at her.

"Be there tonight."

Kelsey nodded "I will."

Paige walked off.

Lilly looked at Kelsey "be where?"

"Pool party."

"Paige is having a pool party?"

"Yeah, you wanna go?"

Lilly gave her a disgusted look.

"Come on, you'll go with me. Nothing'll happen to you."

"Fine, only if nothing happens to me."

"Okay, and" Kelsey took out a jean jacket from her handbag "my mom dried it yesterday."

"Oh thank you" Lilly took it "I forgot all about it."

"Just like you forgot about your lasagna."

Lilly's eyes got big "you have it?!"

"Yeah, lets go to the cafeteria to warm it up."

"Alright."
