Five years, five miserable years of me dreaming of going to Paris. I don't care if I'm there for even an hour! All I want is to do is witness the all-famous heroes in action at least once! Ever since my best friend, whom now lives in Paris, showed me pictures of the heroes in action, I just can't help but dream I was there instantly. It makes me wish I was even born there.I sighed as I took another step forward in the line. Christmas was tomorrow and the entire mall was crowded with multiple kinds of people. I sympathize for those who haven't bought any gifts for their loved ones, however, at the same time, feel relieved that I found my family's and friend's gifts.
Not longer then ten minutes, much to my relief, I finally got to the sales clerk. She smiled warmly at me as she passed my items by the machine, letting it leaving a nice beep once it was registered. Waiting patiently, I looked to my left, seeing that the line grew even longer with different and unfamiliar faces in either stress, worry, sadness, and relief, I smiled, seeing all these people filled with gifts in their hands proved to me that at least there are some people out in the world with a heart.
"-is. Miss. Uh..." I felt a tap on my shoulder and swiftly turned around to face the sales lady.
"Oh, uh...Finished...Right, sorry, just was lost in my train of thought, hehe," I forced a larger smile as I sweat-dropped, how embarrassing. The lady, who I recently found out was named Clara, eyeing her name tag, nodded in understanding as I paid for my gifts in cash. As I came to the store door with gifts in hand, I turned around to face Clara, "Hope you have a wonderful Christmas ma'am! And thank you!" As I turned back to face the door, I noticed her smile grew more genuine before she served her next customer.
The mall seem to be missing a few people, but I didn't care. The thought of the people's confused faces in line after my small "scene" gave me a small giggle as I walked toward the escalator to the first floor. Around three minutes, I found a comfy seat to sit down and take a rest. My mom was right, next time, for sure, I will buy my gifts early.
Speaking of which, I took out my phone, tapped my contacts app and called my mother to tell her I was ready to go now. After a couple of rings, she finally answered.
"Hello sweetie, done already?"
"Yeah mom, how long until you could pick me up?"
"Twenty minutes. Will you also buy me some coffee and something for your father? I'll pay you back afterwards."
"Sure thing, mom."
"Thank you dear. See you in twenty, bye."
"Bye mom," and with that, she hung up.
I sighed yet again as I slumped down in my seat and pulled out my necklace given by my grandmother before she died. The pendant was of a cross with the beginning of the Lord's Prayer engraved on it. Grasping it, I thought of all the memories we shared, the good and the bad. A loud child's cry woke me up from my flashback and tears cascaded peacefully down my cheek as I quickly wiped them away and stood up. Looking to my right, a mother was calming down her child, but seemed to fail. Concern washing over me, I walked over and squatted down to the girl's level, looking towards the parent for permission. She slowly nodded and I faced the small kid, each hand gently on one of her shoulders.
"Hello, I'm (Y/n), however, most know me as (N/n). What's your name young one?"
The little girl wiped her tears with her one shoulder and sniffed before answering in a soft, yet beautiful, voice, "My n-name is Ella."
"That's a wonderful name! Did you know that 'Ella' means 'beautiful fairy'? In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if you were secretly one."
"REALLY?" Her eyes lit up like a thousand fireworks as I giggled.
