Chapter 1

August 17, 2017, 11 am Eastern Standard Time, New York City, New York

My name is Jessica Elizabeth Summers, I'm 19 years old and I'm beginning my first year of medical school on full scholarship. I decided to take a gap year to work and earn money along with my best friend. I'm living in my dream city New York City with my Best Friend Destiny Rivermore, who is majoring in Graphic Design at Parson's School of Design.

Together we moved in together in a small apartment in Manhattan where we both plan to pursue our dreams. Destiny has been my best friend since first grade, she is more of a sister to me. Although I'm living my dream to become a doctor, I also miss my father and my older brother.

Jess, hurry up!! We have to settle in and start unpacking

I'm coming Destiny!! said, Jessica,

Can you believe we are in our first year of college? Just think, when we were little, we decided that we were both going to grow up, go to college, and become successful afterward.!!!

Jessica

"I most certainly can...I can't wait to start classes and learn how to save people's lives, just like my mom used to do"

"She would be so proud of you Jess, Your mom was the best doctor ever," said Destiny

My mom was a cardiologist. She was the best mom a girl could ask for; I wanted to be just like her. she was my best friend. We did everything together as a family until one day she was taken from us. My mother died in a car accident seven years ago and it hit our family hard. I didn't know if I could live on without her but then I vowed to follow her footsteps and become a cardiologist myself so that I could keep my mom's spirit alive.

"Thanks, girl, I will do my best to become the best doctor ever"

After three of unpacking, Destiny insisted that they go shopping for clothes, shoes, and of course groceries for the apartment. After shopping at the food market, they decided to shop at high-end stores on 5th avenue.

"Destiny, you know I cannot afford any of this stuff, it abruptly EXPENSIVE and too much for my taste"

"Sweetie it's fine, it all on me," said Destiny

"Destiny I-"

"Zip it, I'm buying both of us some new clothes for our first week of classes PERIOD!" and she turned away with a smile

That's just like Destiny for you, her family is a little wealthy due to her father being a pharmacist and her mom being a creative director. I usually don't like her spending so much money on us because if there is one thing my dad taught me is how to budget and save money.

We returned home at 5 pm, unload the groceries and clothes and decided to order take out at Freddie's Pizza Mania. We fell asleep afterward on the couch.

The Next day,

I woke up and found Destiny still passed out on the couch, face smeared with Pizza. Unbelievable. I left her there to take a shower and clean myself up.

3o minutes later, I decided to leave a note for Destiny and head out to the store to by some school supplies and womanly necessities. I came to a grocery store named "Essence".

While shopping, I come across a very cute guy. We see each other from a distance and I couldn't take my eyes off him. His blond hair, chiseled jaw, bright smile, six-pack. He couldn't be any more than 5'10 and I'm 5'6. He sees me and I look away embarrassed. Then all of a sudden a hand taps my shoulder.
