The Girl With Gifts

Chapter Sixteen

The rain was pounding down viciously as I was crouched on the roof. My eyes were scanning the people below, looking for him. For them.

It had not been that long since we left but I know that the monster had came after us. After all this time, he still looked for me. For us. So I knew that in reality he'd leave The Rebellion and come after us, making us join him again. Do things for him.

I had my hair pinned back with a bobble I have been given, I had it in a messy pony tail, to stop it sticking to my face in the rain.

Leo had made me wait here. He was getting us food. Instead of making me use my power like other may have done, he turned himself invisible which was insanely painful for him to do so.

My whole body twitches as I carefully look over my shoulder. I shrug the thought of somebody watching me out of my mind. Hoping it was just me being paranoid. Now that he was looking for me again. I did not know who it was he was after. Me. Or Leo. I did not want to find out. I could not find out.

Rough hands grabbed me from behind, pulling me against them whilst I could feel their breath tickling my ear. The very touch of them on me made my skin crawl, I started kicking and fighting to remove the person's hands from me. I didn't want to use my powers, this could just be a person and I did not want to expose myself. So putting up a fight is the only thing I can do. I get lucky as the back of my leg slams into them and they drop me with an humpth. I land silently and swiftly kick before facing whoever this was. I could not see their face but I know it was nobody or nothing I knew, just a person. Wanting something off of me. My skin shaked in response. A slow shiver escalating up and down my body.

"Stay down." My voice warned. I was trying not to escalate this more than it was, he was only a man. A man who had only grabbed me. But who knows? He could work for The Faculty or even him. I scowl at the thought. None of them are getting me. Not ever again. My voice seems to have been commanding enough that the man made sure to stay down, with his face against the floor. I knew that my power had some sort of help in this situation. Even when I had not thought of using it. It was present.

Leo came running back without any supplies which he had told me he was getting. He shrugged of the guy on the floor but gave me a look which told me he was going to bring this up later, i smiled as he took my hand and did one of his power. Going invisible.

My hand unconsciously gripped on to Leo's hand tighter as if that would actually make it so i was not showing, i trusted Leo but i could not help it. I had to make sure that i was invisible. I sucked in my breath when i heard his voice, he was looking for us. Or me. Or just Leo. We were not as safe as what we thought.

My blue eyes gazed to Leo's brown ones and i saw the worry in his face too, i smiled slightly but it was not reaching my eyes, he knew i was trying to make it seem like things were going to be fine. But, we already knew. He had tracked us this far, he probably had someone new who had abilities too.

I bit down on my lip to try and stop my harsh breaths coming through and everybody hearing. The person i had made stay on the floor was being helped up by him muttering about some angel who told him to stay down. The man was fighting against him, trying to get back down. I did not know my ability was that strong.

When his face turned to where me and Leo were he had a proud smug smile on his face. When i looked into his dull grey eyes i gripped Leo's hand. Looking into this monsters eyes took me back, back to the hell which was once my life. Even though, we were invisible i though he could still see me. I thought he could see Leo and I, trying to stay as still and quiet.

"Lyria," The monster spoke. "We know you're here. That man is proof and i can see you."

As he said that last bit my mouth opened wide as he looked directly into my eyes. I back away dropping Leo's hand trying to create distance. I hated being near him! I used to love it but now all i taste around him is sick. My body urges me to use my ability on him, to get away but for some reason i just can not. His eyes stay on me not even glancing towards Leo who is now trying to protect me in some way.

"It's nice to see you again," His voice spoke as he stroked the side of my cheek. I did not dare breath, i store at the ground not wanting to look at him in his eyes, as he stroked my cheek i tried moving away but his other hand came to my shoulder to keep me in place. My teeth started biting the inside of my cheek. I could not say anything to anger him, i knew what he was like angry.

My arms wrapped around my torso, trying to cover up. I had always done this when i was nervous. This monster made me so anxious and nervous, i always got myself worked up whenever he was around me. When i was little, he made me feel safe but now when i grew up and saw him for what he really was. He scared the shit out of me. Leo had joined the group a few weeks later and helped me through knowing what he was. The monster thought Leo was helping me to stay as that's what Leo was reporting back to him however, in reality he was escaping with me.

In an instance his face was in front of mine gaping at my wide eyes, they were not wide in the reasons he probably thought. I was petrified. Every time i could feel his breath, see his face of feel his touch made me want to throw up. It sent chills up my body in disgust begging for me to get away. Not having anywhere to go i stayed there as he continued to stroke my cheek. My blue eyes gaping at the horizon begging for anything to stop this. To help us. Even if it meant getting caught by The Faculty.

My eyes caught Leo who was slowly creeping up on the monster in front of me. I tried to subtly shake my head in protest but this caused him to turn round and see Leo with a pipe in his hand. A humorous evil laugh echoed through the silent night sending a chill down my spine. Leo's eyes widen as his hand wraps around my throat. I look up to the sky, i know he would not do it. He had been looking for my for years. When his grip tightened i let out a little choke sound and brought my hand up to his fingers, it seemed to catch him off guard as he dropped me to the floor. Taking a few deep breathes i looked up to see his slowly walking to Leo. My blue eyes focused on Leo. I watched as his grip tightened on the pipe turning some parts of his finger white. I watch as he clenches his jaw. Leo's eyes do not leave the monster however, he does not seem fazed by Leo's aggression. He almost seems like he wants to fight him.

I try to force words out of my mouth. To try and stop Leo before he can not take his actions back. By now we know this man holds grudges and if we did not make it worse, he'd just take us back but Leo was not making it easy. I tried to speak but it only sent a sour taste down my throat. My left hand reached for my throat feeling a rough mark, like i had been held my rope.

Leo was not baking down, he had no reason too. In this reality, he had gotten out of this monsters control and would not go back. This was not for me, it was for him and maybe some part of him thought he could win. If he won everybody this monster had would be free. Leo swung for him but he easily dodged as he let out a evil chuckle. He was behind Leo as he took a swing for his legs knocking him to the ground.

I hesitantly, start moving only to be halted in my place when i feel his eyes on me. My gaze was on the floor until i felt his eyes move back to Leo groaning on the floor. My eyes focused on them. The monster reached into his coat bringing out a dagger as he stalked towards Leo.

Roughly, he grabbed Leo positioning him so i could see his pleading eyes. His eyes were begging me to do something but i could not. I could not feel my abilities. The monster smirked at me as he whispered something i could not hear too Leo. My eyes widen as he brings the dagger to the front of Leo around his neck. Leo's eyes stay focused on me- pleading even more. Sobs silently leak out of my mouth as my hand grips the floor trying to help me stand up. My eyes never leaving Leo's. Without another second passing the monster digs the knife into his neck sending a sliver of blood to slide down his neck and without wasting another minute he sliced the knife across his neck.

"No!" My voice screamed as i watched Leo fall to the ground the blood oozing out of him. I watch as the monster knifes Leo's heart just to make sure. My head leans towards the floor feeling the coldness on my forehead.

"You brought this on Lyria." Is the last thing i hear before a hard object comes crashing into the back of my head.
