"Leo! Come here," Violet called to her son from the coach of their small apartment. Her eyes were red, cheaks moist, and nose runny. She was holding a tissue box. Her phone was on the ground.
"Comeing, Mom," Leo called. "When is Mom 2.O going to get home?" Leo was a bright boy. He is in 8th grade. He had dark skin and dark drown eyes. He played football and was one of the best in all of his classes, soon that would change. He had a good enogh amount of friends. He didn't get teasted at school anymore for haveing two moms. He walked to where his mom was.
"That's what I wanted to talk to you about," She said choking back another tear. "Well...um. Leo come here." She patted the seat on the coach next to her. Leo saw how red her face was. He decided not to ask and just lison. Violet looked down at the ground. She was confused on how to fraze this. Mary would always handle something like this. "Your mother won't be coming back for sometime," She started as a tear slipped down her face.
Leo looked confused, "Why? What happened?" Tarrible tradgets started to play threw his mind;one of his mother dyeing, one of her abandoning them, another of her gettong stolen. Violet didn't answer starting to look for words but nothing would come out. "Mom, tell me." He started to shake his mother by the sholders growing even more worried.
"She's going to jail," Violet blurted.
Leo's heart dropped, a cold tear ran down his cheak. Violet turned to her son and held him close in a hug. "It was for drugs. A policeman found them in her office. Mary has never done drugs though. She never would. The guidge said that she was selling them and that no one else could have put them there exept for her. So, she's going to jail for a few months."
"Can't you pay the fine to get her out? That would fix it," Leo said determindly.
"We don't have the money for that, baby," Violet said still holding Leo. "I'm going to try to find a second job though. So, we can get her out sooner."
Leo nodded starting to sob, holding onto his mother. Violet sobbed holding onto her son.
It was a Sunday night. Leo had school in the morning.
~
Leo was in his room trying to fall a sleep. Violet was a sleep in her's and Mary's room. She was holding onto Mary's favorite sweater. Leo grabbed his deep purple blanket and trudged to his parent's room. He knocked on the door. He slowly opened the door, "Mom?" He stepped into the dim room. The moon lighting it up some in the window.
"Hm?" Violet answered sleepilty. She was now faceing Leo at the door.
"Can I sleep with you tonight?"
"Ya, ya," She answered scooting over in the bed. Leo layed down in the bed with her, like a little kid might if they had a nightmare.
"Do I have to go to school tomorrow?" He asked. They had already been over this.
"Yes, You are a Keply. We don't let outsiders see us damaged. And no one at school will know what happened," Violet said soothly to Leo. Leo nodded and pulled his purple blanket around himself under the covers.
"Where are you going to get a second job at?" Leo asked, still not feeling like sleeping.
"I don't know. Maybe another resteraint or as an artist some where." The second one Violet stated was just a far off dream of hers now. She had been very good at painting when she was in high school. She very seldomly had time to now.
"You could do the second one," Leo nodded. "You're good. Everyone would love them."
"Really think so?"
"Ya. I know."
Violet smiled and ruffled Leo's hair. "If I can find a second job that meens I'll be gettinf home later, ok?" Violet serched her son's face for any sadness.
"I had guest," Leo responded. "Maybe I should get a job."
"At 13?" Violet asked laughing some. "You just focas on those grades, ok?"
Leo nodded. Violet patted Leo's sholder, "Go to sleep. You'll need the strangtg tomorrow. Love you"
"Strangth to face the day. Love you, too, mom."
