That fire. Always the fire. Amber, untamed. It licked its way into my life and left ashes in its place. I screamed at first when it came, a mass of writhing flames. The sound tore from my throat, amd left it raw. I wanted to run. I really did. But there was nowhere to run to. So I just stood there, my shadow flickering on the wall behind me. But crew came. Shouting, yelling. The engine's gone wrong. Jump overboard! So I was dragged away from the fire and plunged into the water. Into safety.
But that fire. Always the fire.
