"That is why most people go into a delusion while trying to deal with the fact that this is happening. Can anyone tell me what the scientific name for this is?" The psychologist teacher droned on in front of the class, occasionally writing notes for us to copy on the whiteboard. As I looked down to my book to write notes all I saw on my page were squiggles and drawings.
My latest one stood in the middle of the page and had the most interesting details. At first I had tried to make a olden stop watch but somehow the intricate clockwork designs turned into broken springs and flying hands. A broken stopwatch. Somehow this fascinated me more than a ordinary stopwatch did. I couldn't explain it. I just felt that way.
Then again instead of putting down notes that I needed to pass my exams I began to draw again, at first I myself didn't even know what I was drawing but as the lines began to fill and connect, and the details appeared I realised what it was. A hat. A very mad looking hat. I began to add a bow to the hat when something tapped me on the shoulder. Spooked I jumped up of my seat a little, just to hear quiet laughing behind me.
"Did you fall asleep in mr Brunswick's class or something?" Scarlett chucked quietly behind me. I finally let out a pent up breath, i was still shaking from the experience, lately I had been jumping, alway looking behind myself I felt as though I had been watched. Or maybe choose my elective of psychology wasn't the best of plans. "Something like that." I whispered back to Scarlett, beginning to turn to the front of the class.
However, her hand on my shoulder stopped me before I could even turn half way. "Are you ok?" She sent me a concerned smile, "you seem a little... Jumpy." I struggled for a sentence, but it seems as though my mouth had thought before I had even thought of the words. "Just exams you know, stressing me out." The answer came out cool and collected.
Scarlett began to squeal but stifled the squeal before it reached full compassity, realising we were in a classroom, and were supposedly paying attention. "There's a party. At Eric's place tonight. You. Have. To. Come! I'm giving you no option." She whispered-shouted at me. I bit my lip, at party, at my crush's house, but I have to study for my exam tomorrow.
Scarlett saw this hesitation and put up one finger to stop me from speaking. "Did you even hear me? Eric? You know, guy you have a crush on, Eric? Eric, who throws the best parties? Eric, the persons house you BFF really wants to go to?" She gripped my arm, practically ripping it off, with pleading eyes.
"But red I have to study-" I began to whine out a reply, but she interrupted me placing her hand swiftly over my mouth. I tried to mumble something but it came out in audible. "Study on a different night! Your always studying or doing something smart! Have fun for once! I'm sure you can give up one A+ in your straight A record!" Scarlett began to ramble, while I tried to make muffled sounds from the hand surrounding my mouth.
Fed up with being unheard I tore of Scarlett's hand, "I'll go, ok?" I mumbled, she immediately froze in her position and looked at me with wide eyes. "You-you'll go?" She stumbled over her words, "YES!" Scarlett jumped up from her seat shouting. I shot her a panicked look, that told her to sit down, she herself clasped a hand around her mouth.
She began to ease herself back into her seat slowly but it was no use, with a swift spin mr. Brunswick had turned to give Scarlett the deadliest death stare that was humanly possible. "Um, I mean yes," Scarlett struggled to come up with an excuse, "to your question. You know..." She strained her neck to check the board. "That it creates illusions in the brain." I could almost hear her praying silently that he would buy it.
Much to Scarlett's luck mr Brunswick simply turned back to the whiteboard am continued to drone on about the frontal lobe of the human brain. Scarlett let out a shaky breath and slowly sunk back into her seat, "close one huh?" I laughed silently. She gave a a quick nod, and leaned forward to speak to me. "My house, 4:00pm, I have the PERFECT dress for you. And if anyone else asks we are studying or the exam." She whispered the quick set of commands.
And with that I turned to the front of the class to try and absorb some information from the lecture. Then that feeling came over me again, like someone was standing right behind me, breathing down my shoulder. I fought the urge to turn around and find the culprit for causing me all this unease. Soon enough the annoying sense of someone watching me overcame me and I turned around.
Just to observe a empty chair that was currently receive an extreme death glare from me. I quickly turned back to the front of the classroom bringing my black jumper closer around me.
