When maria was a baby her parents were named maria and Jose,they were going to a dance on the day of the dead.but they died in a carcrash while the baby who was soon named maria after her mom was alone the Mexican band (madachi),found her and took her in now that she is (Miguel's age),they showed her how to play guitar.Then she found a boy named Miguel and became his best and only friend since that day.but his family hates maria since she loves music.but when Miguel goes to find his godfather,  maria follows and helps him along with Elena and yogi and his family.
