It had been three months since she had gone missing. Three months since Snoke was killed and the war had ended. Three months since a new order had risen. It had been three months since packs of dark force users stormed the Resistance almost crushing their numbers.

It had been two months since Leia Organa's death. Two months since the Resistance crumbled with her. Two months since the survivors had fled to Ahch-To to help Luke and I prepare for war. Two months since I had heard her name.

It had been one month since he learned of their leader. One month since he knew she was out there. One month since he realized she wasn't the same. One month since he had blamed himself for her downfall.

Now here she was standing in front of him. It was just them now standing on the cliffs of Ahch-To. Luke was dead as was her army and the rest of the New Jedi. He wondered how it had come to this. How only months before he would have held her in his arms, and he would have been able to kiss her goodnight.

Now Rey stood in dark black robes, and a double sided saber was clutched in her hands. He thought she was still beautiful. He thought he could bring her back. He was wrong.

She had charged and the battle had begun. She would slash and he would block. There would be a window of opportunity and he wouldn't take it. How could he?

Finally he had to fight back, but only the Force knows how he wished he didn't have to. With one swift move their sabers were locked just as they were those years before on Starkiller Base. Oh, how the tables have turned.

He knew what he had to do. He slashed downward cutting her staff in half, and lunged forward into her. His own saber embedded into her stomach. She looked at him wide eyed, and then he saw her.

He saw the girl that used to dance in the rain. He saw the girl that would demand to ride on his back. He saw the girl who's smile could light up a whole room.

And as the light began to leave her eyes, as she whispered those three words one last time, he realized his mistake. He knew then that out of all the people in the galaxy, she was the one he should have saved.

Today he had lost her, but he reached down to cradle her broken body in his arms. He screamed into the empty planet pleading with whoever was listening to bring her back. He realized something else too.

Today she had died. Today he had died. Today the light was gone, but there was one constant that could not be destroyed.

Forever he would love her.
