Interview with @Tensukishi

What is your username?

A. Tensukishi

When did you join Wattpad? And for how long have you been writing (in general)?

A. April 2014. I had been writing sice I was five really,I keep this little book full of my childish stories and illustrations. I got selected for a writer's programme when I was 9, and published my own short book, around 3000 words or so. I kind of lost interest after a while, and only started seriously writing again last year. I joined fanfiction.net last year and I published two, still ongoing series there.

What can you tell us about the current story you’re working on? Tell us a little about the plot and the characters in it?

A. The current story I am working on is called Origami Girl. It revolves around a 17-year old second year high school girl, Furukawa Ayano, who lives in Hakodate, a city in northern Japan. She isolates herself from the rest of her class, refusing to talk to everyone save a few, in the name of protecting herself. She has recently broken up with her boyfriend, Bryan Tan, and is suffering from its aftermath, since she felt that it was her fault. She broods alot about it. Her best friend, Murakami Kameko, had just returned from Dubai, following her father for a term to stay there. She joins track and field, and Ayano follows suit. This is only the first part, I have not completed it yet, so I won't spoil it for the readers.

Why do you think the readers should read your story (mention the factors which will be appealing to the readers)?

A. I think it is interesting read, especially if you want something different from a typical American high-school setting, which I find is geting extremely common nowadays. I focus alot on my characters, since it is a coming-of-age type of novel. Emotions, love, strengths and flaws are just some of the things I cover in my story. I also try to flesh-out my characters because my characters are human, not flat pieces of one-faced paper cutouts. I also include foreshadowing and symbolism in my work, to portray what would happen in the story later on. Everyone has problems, it's just how you deal with it that counts.

Which is your favorite character, in the current story you are working on?

A. Furukawa Ayano. She is the main character of the story. She is weak-willed, timid, paranoid, and gives up easily. She downplays her achievements and broods over her failures. She shuts herself from the rest of the world, of fear of judgement and being betrayed. She is a perfectionist, and the failure of her achieving perfection daunts her. I like her as I feel a very strong connection to her, as many of the traits above are shared between us both, and what she goes through are partially based on my own, real-world experiences.

How many stories have you posted on Wattpad (excluding short stories)?

A. Three.

Can you tell us about your other stories, any two other stories that you are working on?

A. They are both Vocaloid fanfictions involving Hatsune Miku and Kagamine Len as the main characters, and they are both tragedy. Firstly, is Dance of the Cherry Blossoms, set in a high school in Nagoya. It is a love story between two students, but all I can say that it's kind of tragic, but I shan't reveal more since it's unfinished. Secondly, I have written All Clear Over Tokyo. This story takes place in 1920s to 1945 Tokyo, and talks about the life of Hatsune Miku, and her husband Kagamine Len, both growing up adopted in a temple after the 1923 Kanto earthquake, and ends with the Firebombing of Tokyo, which claimed the lives of 200,000, over the course of just a few hours. I feel that this story is very meaningful to me, as this topic is rarely discussed, even in Japan, what more in America. I feel that not only the Koreans, Chinese and Jews were victims in World War II. I'm not trying to downplay what the Japanese did to the others, or what the Jews went through, what I'm saying is that everyone suffers from war, even innocent Japanese women and children, who had no power to stop the bombings, boiled in the canals and swept away in the fiery winds. I felt that these people should be remembered, along with those killed in the air raids over all the 67 major cities targeted, and not be forgotten.

Do you offer critiques to other users? If you have offered a critique, mention that story?

A. Yes, I do. I mostly look out for grammatical errors and offer ideas on characterization. I forgot any specific title though, since I did so many.

Do you write for yourself or for the readers?

A. I write for myself, and if people like it, I am blessed. Once for my exam, my teacher called my narrative 'nonsense', but I'm fine with it, heh. Requests denied.

Describe yourself in ten words.

A. I listen to AKB48 songs and J-pop most of the time.
