Ch.5: Explanation

3rd Person P.O.V ( no one's p.o.v)

All of the teens were in the academy, they had gotten back to Berk an hour before. Hiccup was explaining had happened with his group while Lakeisha, Astrid, and Heather were wrapping Dakota's arms in bandages. The reason why Dakota was getting his arms wrapped in bandages was his arms were bleeding heavily from where the Singetail's claws had cut into his arms. Hiccup was saying," And then you guys showed up and you all know the rest." He looked at Dakota and asked, " Hey cuz, how are you feeling?" Dakota's face was pale from blood loss but he said,"I'm fine don't worry about me, I've been through worse." Snotlout then asked," Like what?" Dakota said," Well 6 months ago, I was impaled by a whispering death spine if you don't recall." Everyone except for Lakeisha, Hiccup, Astrid, and Coner all screamed," WHAT?!!" Dakota looked at Hiccup and asked sheepishly," They didn't know about that did they?" Hiccup then said," Well they do now." Snotlout then asked," When and how did this happen?" Dakota told everyone to sit down and listen.

20 minutes later....

"And then after Lakeisha and I confessed that we loved each other, we started dating." Heather said," I was waiting for you all to start dating, just like with Hiccup and Astrid, I knew you two loved each other." Dakota said," Yeah, i did get pretty lucky!" Snotlout then asked," What about the whispering death, where did it go?" Dakota said," He's right behind you.", and pointed at Strider. Everyone except for Lakeisha, Coner, and Hiccup screamed," WHAT?!!!" Dakota said," Yeah, Strider was the whispering death that nearly killed me, but with my help, Coner managed to train him." Hiccup then said to Dakota," Hey cuz, you don't look so good." Dakota, who had gotten even paler protested saying," I'm fine Hiccup, as I said, I've been through worse." Before Hiccup could protest saying he needed to rest, the roars of a Rumblehorn and a Hotburple could be heard and everyone looked towards the entrance to see the one and only Stoick the Vast and Gobber the Belch enter the academy. Hiccup knew there was going to be some explaining to do.

Once Stoick got off of Skullcrusher, Hiccup asked, " Dad! What brings you to the academy on this fine day?" Stoick said in his thick accent," I came too see what you and the other teens were up to." Stoick looked behind his son and noticed several things: Toothless', Flame's, Hookfang's, and Sleuther's saddles had scorch marks on them, Snotlout, and Hiccup had a few scorch marks on their clothes, and his nephew Dakota was very pale and his arms wrapped in bandages. He looked at his son and asked," What happened?" Hiccup said," W-what do you mean?" Stoick then asked again," What happened to you all?" Hiccup started stuttering," W- what n-nothing happened!" Astrid glared at Hiccup because he was lying. Astrid then asked Hiccup in a threatening voice," Hiccup, do you want me to tell Stoick the truth, or do you want to?" Hiccup said," I am telling the truth!" Gobber said," Hiccup, we're not stupid you know, we know something happened because 1. Yours and Snotlout's clothes have scorch marks on them, 2. Your dragons' saddles have fresh scorch marks, and 3. Dakota looks like a ghost. So Hiccup please tell us what happened." Hiccup looked at his father and mentor and explained what had happened with the dragon flyers.

After Hiccup finished telling Stoick and Gobber what had happened, Stoick said," Gobber, you and Lakeisha take Dakota to Gothi so she can tend to him." Gobber nodded and helped Lakeisha get Dakota on Violet's saddle and the three people flew out of the academy to Gothi's hut. Stoick then looked at the teens and said," From now on, we will have patrols all of the time to keep an eye out for the dragon flyers and no one is to step foot off of this island alone, I don't want to risk any lives, now I need to go make sure Dakota will be all right." Stoick mounted Skullcrusher and flew out of the academy to go to Gothi's hut. Hiccup said," Ok everyone, we need to be careful from now on." Everyone agreed with what he said and then everyone except for Hiccup and Astrid left the academy. Astrid then noticed that Hiccup looked really worried. She walked over to Hiccup and asked," Hey, what's wrong?" Hiccup said," I failed to be a good leader Astrid, how can I be a good leader in battle if I can't even be a good leader when we're training? I couldn't even prevent my cousin from getting hurt!" Astrid looked him in the eyes and said," Hiccup Horrendous Haddock the third, you are a great leader, and don't let anything or anyone make you believe differently, it wasn't your fault Dakota got hurt, it's the dragon flyers' fault! Dakota will be ok, he is just like you, he can take a hit and get back up." Hiccup softly said," Thank you for helping me feel better Astrid.", and leaned in towards her, their lips connected and the two teens loved every second of it. After they pulled away and leaned their foreheads against each other, Hiccup asked," How about we go check how Dakota is doing and then go on an evening flight?" Astrid said," I would love that." The two got on their dragons and left the academy empty once again.

For now, life was peaceful.
