The next day came, my mom had these gay guys in the house decorating it. Halloween would be tomorrow. I didn't really care about Halloween though, all I could think about was Everett. I wondered if he would be mad at me. I wanted to talk to him. I changed my clothes and then left my room, only to bump into a strong chest that smelled of pine needles and musk. I looked up and saw Everett's puppy dog brown eyes.
"Oh! Hey," I said surprised.
Everett had started to just let himself inside whenever he wanted to come over, but I was okay with it. I wondered how come every time I thought about Everett he suddenly appeared. Must be a coincidence, but I enjoyed seeing him anyways.
"Hey, I'm bored want to play a game?"
"Sure," I replied.
He turned and walked down the hall to the attic stairs. He grabbed the string on the door and pulled until the stairs popped from it. Then he climbed to the top and offered me his hand. I gently placed my hand in his and climbed up after him. Then he closed the attic door making the stairs rumble as they rose back up.
"How about we play cards like we used to?"

"Well actually I want to do something else, like go on a real date."

Everett paused for a minute before saying, "Okay, sure. Tonight at 12 am meet me in the basement."

"Okay, great."

I wondered why he'd want to go out at 12 am but at the moment I didn't care. I was just happy to be doing something with him, other than just hanging out in my house. I overheard my mom and dad talking about selling it. She was worried that being in the house was affecting her baby. She had gone to the doctors several times this month, since she was worried something was wrong with the baby. Dad tried to talk some sense into her but she wasn't listening, she only wanted to talk about moving out. My mom had been seeing things and constantly calling the cops after hearing noises at night. I was afraid she was becoming delusional. After Everett left I went into the kitchen and sat at the Island on a barstool. My mom was chopping leaves for a salad. I cleared my throat and she jumped,

"Oh my god! Hazel you scared me half to death."
"We have to talk mom."
"What about?"
"Take a seat."
She carefully obeyed me while looking at me puzzled.
"What is this about?"
"Mom, I know you want to move out of this house. I just want to say if you dare sell this house I will run away and you'll never find me."
"Hazel, I can't raise a baby in this house! There's too much negative energy here, the robbery for instance.."
I cut her off,
"We kicked ass here mom! This is the place we survived! And if you want to leave this house go ahead, but you're going to lose not only the house but me also." I yelled
She looked at me astonished and sealed her lips. I got up and left the room feeling accomplished. I loved being in this house, with Everett. We could just stay here by ourselves and no one would bother us. I walked into the bathroom and turned the lights on. The lights flickered as I grabbed a blade from my secret cabinet. I slid the blade across my wrist and red velvet drops of blood spurted out.
"Stop that!"

It was Everett.

"I thought you left"

He walked over to me and held my wrist,

"I hate it when you do that!"

"You used to do it!"

"Not anymore," he almost whispered.

He put his mouth to my wrist and sucked the blood away.

"Ew, that's gross!"

"Yeah it is, stop mutilating yourself."

I peered deeply into his eyes and could tell he really cared.

"Hazel, promise me you won't cut again."

I wanted to stop, for him.

"I promise."

"Good, give me the blades."
