Loretta POV

"Don't forget about me"~August Alsina

The sreeching of brakes, crunching  metal, and piercing screams have haunted my thoughts for the past three hours.

I am currently lying in a hospital bed, being told my husband is dead. Funny how life works. We were just celebrating our first pregnancy, after four years of infertility and now he is on a cold metal slab in the hospital morgue. How could a day of pure bliss turn into a horrible nightmare?

We had just gotten news of the sperm catching, a few weeks after it was artificially inseminated. After years of prayer and faith we finally got what we wanted. I was informed I was seven weeks and the baby was healthy so far.

We were both over the moon and decided to spend the day with each other, celebrating. Nasir had called in a favor at my favorite restaurant and we arrived around 8 that night.

We ate and drank our special drink mix, sprite and pineapple juice. He ordered nachos and I ordered chicken wings. We both stole food off the other's plate, a tradition since we both held the value of what you have is better. Our conversation was light and filled with joy.

After we paid for our meals we left, taking the normal route home. We approached a stop light, still laughing about a playful argument we had. We were so wrapped up in our own little world that we didn't notice a little red convertible, speeding towards us until it was too late.

Screeching brakes, crunching metal, piercing screams, pronounced darkness.

I woke up to a loud beeping sound and,I screamed, unsure of where I was. Funny how then I was afraid of my surroundings when I should've been afriad of the circumstances.

The doctor came in and told me a piece of metal had lodged itself into my side. I remeber thinking that explains the pain. He then explains they have to keep me under close supervision, for the next few weeks just in case it became infected, and to monitor the baby.

I must've asked him a thousand times about my husband but he carefully avoided any talk of him until he finished going on about my injuries. After a grueling ten minutes he said my husband was in surgery to remove a piece of glass that was stuck in his neck and abdomen. He was expected to be out of surgery in a couple of hours, and home in a week max.

Funny how life gives you hope, a promise for a better day, only for it to be snatched away from you reach. He never did make it out of that operating room.

Seems they missed some internal injuries, when they reviewed his x-Ray and when they opperated his heart couldn't take the stress and he bleed out.
Funny how someone could mean the world to you one day, and be gone in a flash the next. I remeber crying my heart out, wishin it was me on that cold, slab of metal instead of him. Wishing I could see him just one more time. Wishing he would be able to see the birth of his beautiful daughter Nima Denise Salazar, born on Novermber 17, at 8:15 in the morning, and handsome son, Nino Salazar, born at 8:45 am, a few minutes later.

I prayed to the God's that somehow he would be able to see them, from up above and help guide her throughout life. Funny how life loves to play cruel jokes on people, and destroy lives in the process.
