In 1989, Joseph L.Popp created the AIDS trojan and spread it through the snail mail by using floppy disks. In WHO AIDS conference, about 20000 of this virus distributed through these infected floppy disks.
In 2006 , another ransomware called Archievus, was released. This was the first ransomware to use the asymmetric encryption and the RSA algorithm. It encrypts everything in the"My Documents" dictionary. It asked user to purchase from the specific websites to obtain the passwords for decryption or recovery of the files.
In 2008 and 2009, there were many fake applications compromising the computer systems and networks. In 2011 ans 2012, ransomware attacks increases very fast. After 2013, ransomware attacks are increasing day by day and they also affected big organizations all over the globe .

1. Stay away from phishing emails, never open unauthorized and unverified emails.
