Red and blue lights shone through the store windows at 1am. I was so shocked, I just
stood there with a diamond necklace in my hand waiting to be arrested. I thought I
could do it. "Put your hands up there I can see 'em" yelled a police officer. Scared out
of my mind, I dropped the necklace and put my hands behind my back. I felt a tear
rolled down my cheek, but was the awaken back to reality when the officer nudged me
with the butt of his pistol. I looked out the cop car window and asked myself how I got
into this mess. I wish I hadn't. I probably just ruined my future, my career, and life ahead
of me. How could I be so stupid and ignorant.
In court, I awaited my sentence. "You will receive 24 hours of community service, no jail
time, but 3 month probation. You will also be required to attend a jail meet where you
can meet with prisoners and decide if that is how you want to spend the rest of your
life... Order in the court."
I saw tears spill out of my mom and dad's eyes, they loved me and I loved them. But
right now, I had hurt them. I could tell by their faces and body language. As most people
say, actions speak louder than words. I knew what they were thinking... 'How could this
be our daughter' and I thought the same thing too about me.

"You need to go" hisses my mother. I knew I needed to, I just didn't want to.
"Fine." I grabbed my jacked and slammed to door behind me
Why did I do this? I was so stupid to think that I could steal a necklace. I'm no theft. I
always have gotten good grades in school and was never really popular. Now every
where I turn, I receive dirty looks and snares. I was innocent, but tried to fit in and
fell flat on my face.
I reached the prison and got into a group with a whole bunch of other kids. Me... little
Lacie Markson was going to meet prisoners to see what life in jail was like.
