"You're late," L.J shunned me once I arrived at track practice. She knew it was me without even looking up. I guess it was a sister brother thing. She was too busy stretching to pay attention to me at all I was surprised she even noticed I was late.
It wasn't my fault I had to make it look like I hadn't just been in my car crying for thirty minutes like a pathetic moron. I've become use to hiding my tears, because I'd rather avoid the question of "why".
Anyway, how did her leg learn how to twist like that?
Looking around I saw that everyone was suited and ready to start except for me.
L.J wore her hair in a ponytail like she always did during her sports time. She wore the basic East Central High sports uniform that consisted of a white shirt with the word "TIGERS" spelled out on the front in red bold letters. She also had the matching shorts that were just plain red with the letters ECH embroidered on the left leg.
I really hope I didn't have to wear that.
"I thought you had changed your mind," she added standing herself up from what seemed to me like torture. What was stretching? Or any form of exercise?
"And let you down?" I said. "Eh, I thought about it,"
"Jerk!" She rolled her eyes before taking me by the arm and I didn't bother to ask where we were going because the only person in the direction she was pulling me was the track coach.
"Darren Wheeler here reporting for duty," L.J spoke for me grabbing the coach's attention.
Tucking his clipboard underneath his arm he outstretched his hand for me to shake.
"I've heard a lot about you from your sister here," he began. "Says you're a good runner but you're just lazy,"
"Leave it to L.J to make me sound good," I said sarcastically causing her to nudge me in the waist. Somebody really needed to tell her to keep her hands to herself sheesh.
"Well leave it to me to tell you that your laziness stops here," he said. "I'm your coach but you can call me Dodge, your uniform is in L.J's locker get changed so we can warm you up,"
Uh laziness is my thing. He can't take away my thing.
"I'm so excited!" L.J smiled. "Follow me for your uniform,"
How did I get myself into this? Seriously? I couldn't think of anything else? Why didn't I say I was finding Pokémon or at Avery's?
Instead of stalling to waste time I figured just get this whole meet out of the way and make sure I do my worst so Dodge wouldn't want me on his team. Then I'd get to go home without L.J harassing me because at least I tried.
So the uniform wasn't that bad. Sure the shirt could have been a bigger size but the shorts fit perfectly and that's was good. I didn't need them cutting off my circulation.
"Rows of three, do start up rounds!" Dodge yelled completely forgetting I was new and didn't have a clue what start up rounds were.
"Let's go!" Shawn Palaski ran past me hoping I would follow.
I did. I didn't want to look like someone who didn't know what they were doing even if I was.
Was I supposed to feel awkward? He did sort of say he really liked me to my sister and I didn't feel the same so...
Running behind him I could have popped a lung and died. I was really out of shape even if it didn't look like it. Maybe I didn't have to try my best to suck because I was already a natural at it.
