Chapter 1 Skylar

Benson High School halls were loud, I squeezed my bag strap harder. The anxiety meds helped, well anxiety, but they didn't help make me more social, or for that matter. less shy. My first hour was communication arts. I stuck to the walls avoiding any contact with the other students in the halls. "W-well he-hello the-there, you mus-must be Sk-Skylar", I heard the voice behind me and quickly spin around, shocked. "W-well sorry for sc-scaring y-you", the voice was coming from a short boy, now in front of me. He had dirty blond hair that looked like the color of ash and crystal blue eyes. "Uh, its fine," I replied quietly, averting my eyes from his face. "W-well my-my na-names Caleb and I ha-have a st-stutter, h-had it since birth, I d-do year l-long yearbook cl-club and I have be-been chosen t-to be-befriend you and sh-show y-you a-around," he replied quickly almost as if it was rehearsed. "Oh, okay," I said trying to end the conversation the best I could. "I h-have pro-probably al-already been t-told, but w-what is yo-your name ag-again," he asked in a bit smaller voice looking over at a group of boys across the hall talking loudly and laughing. "Uh, my name is Skylar, who are they?," I asked politely gesturing to the boys. He grinned and replied sarcastically, "O-oh them, they ar-are j-just the mo-most am-amazing people in th-the wor-world, honey, they are th-the pe-people wh-who gave me th-the proud title fr-freak f-fag." I gave him a questioning glance, and then it hit me. "Well, are you?, I asked "I mean a "fag", I  asked putting quotations in the air as I said it. "If you m-mean fa-fag as in th-the tr-true defi-definition of an m-male hom-homosexual, th-then y-yes, I a-am," he replied with a big grin on his face. "Cool," I replied, secretly smiling, my stomach flipping.
