Frosted Claws

The soft pattering of little paws can be heard from farther up the frosty path. There was an equally shared sense of uneasiness among the group. They were trekking upon an unfamiliar pathway, at least, unfamiliar to most of the cats. The snow was falling, each snowflake dancing around like a kit at play on their short journey to the ground. The one in the lead, the older seal pointed tom, was walking with a dilute calico she-cat, a small blue-gray and dark gray tabby tom-kit, a calico tan, blue-gray, and white she-kit, and a small, weak, cream tom-kit.

"Why do we have to walk so far in the snow?" A black and white she-cat groaned, walking alongside an olive colored tabby tom who was shorter than her.

"We have to wait until we can find shelter, Doris. It's cold and we need somewhere warm to stay." The olive tabby tom mewed, looking at the five others cats in front.

A small orange she-cat trotted behind them, trying to catch up with them on her three legs. She soon caught up with Doris and Oliver, still having to speed walk to stay with them. They soon came across a large stream that was frozen over. The seal-pointed tom's ears went up as he took in a familiar scent, almost as if it reinvigorated him.

"Is this..." The dilute calico murmured,

"RUSHINGCLAN TERRITORY TERRA!" Ripple mewed loudly, his eyes lighting up like a kit's, "Lakeshine might still be here!" The tom bounced slightly, similar to an excited kit.

Doris, Oliver, and Gild caught up quickly as they stopped for a moment. They began to follow the stream, soon finding an old fox den. The fox scent coming from the den was stale, so they knew it wasn't in use. Terra settled herself and the kits into the den, Gild squeezing in next to them.

Doris snuggled up next to Oliver just outside of the den, Ripple staying awake to guard the entrance. She sighed, feeling a strange tingling in her stomach. It wasn't quite hunger, but it wasn't any real pain either. She moved the though to the back of her mind, glancing up at the vast Silverpelt above, eventually drifting to sleep.
