The villain had been torturing the hero for days. Forcing her to do his bidding, to reassure her loved ones that she was safe and sound, to live a lifetime of pain in a matter of hours.

The red splatter finally showed itself on the fifth day. It shone brightly on her cheek, where she could never attempt to hide it.

The villain found her in a corner of the building, desperately trying to find something to cover it up with.

He grinned when he saw it. "Oh, I've been hoping it would show while you stayed here. And, since there's no one else here..." He glanced around curiously and faked a surprised gasp. "I guess I'll have to do it myself, huh?"

She pushed herself back until she hit a wall and pressed her body to it.

"Why so worried?" the villain asked. "You knew it would happen. You knew you couldn't live forever. You always knew you would die at my hands, didn't you? Well, if you would've told me earlier, I could've made much more of an event! I could have arranged for everyone in the town to witness it! What a tragic thing it would be, the poor girl, living only to lose a fight she never had a chance at." He chuckled deeply. "This is going to be wonderful!"

The hero snarled at him. "And you, what have you accomplished? You beat a girl half your size. Congrats. The town will really worship you for that, won't they?" She knew she was stalling, but it was better than giving up.

"Oh, they will. They'll know all about today, I'm sure. Let's see, what shall I tell them? How about, hmm... you never even put up a fight? And you just sat there, drowning in your self-pity and waiting for someone to come to the rescue as always?" His eyes shone as he raised his eyebrows. "Well, I hate to break it to you, sweetheart, but time's up."
