It happened in a summer full of expected normalcy, everything non-changing and conformative to what the teenagers living in the small town of Tarantino were used to. Nothing out of place, nothing anticipated.

Amber, senior class president and caption of the cheer team of Thurman High School, was with her mom when it happened; picking out veggies at the local grocery outlet for their weekly family dinner, going right after morning worship. Joking around and poking fun at each other, the usual routine.

Oscar was with his brothers hanging around their districts community park, the one around the corner from their own high school; Ryder High. An old football previously owned by a generation of boys before them being tossed from brother to brother when it happened. Laughing and ultimately getting rough and stroking fights that all were in good fun, a common way they spent their Sunday's.

Thomas and Roman, the twins of the south side and the art club presidents at Ryder High, were painting together in their shared room when it happened for them. Old CDs they found in their dads study blasting from the radio they 'borrowed' from their older sister, music they've never heard of but was unique enough to make them feel cool and creative. It was something they always did to pass time, along with many other things, cause it's what they know how to do together; create. A calm neutral air to a regular afternoon.

Bennie, a soon to be freshman of Thurman High School and the west sides well known dyke, was lazily reading a book at the counter of her moms antique store when the news reached her. She would have rather been chasing some sort of head rush, be it huffing glue or seeing how many times it takes to get a concussion by falling down a flight of stairs; but she always worked to help out the family on weekends- so there she stayed.

Cynthia along side her water polo sisters were at the north sides swimming pool, their way already pre-payed as they swam in their reserved pool for the evening; the grind never stopping. They had to work hard to beat their nonchalant water polo rivals of Ryder High if they didn't want to yet again come in second place, their swimming practices becoming a daily but normal obsession. It was then they also caught wind of the news.

Spencer and Kenny were taking polaroids of each other for their personal high school memories album. Kenny goofily posing in his Ryder high baseball-tee and Spencer in his usual drag get-up taking most of the photos. They were about to part ways and make plans for the next day, since they spent everyday together happily and live-struck, when it happened to them too.

The stoners were all in someone's garage, the jocks with their dads probably making crude conservative jokes about women, liberals and minorities, the super religious girls and boys at bible study, the Mexicans with their family or out seeking fun in their neighborhoods, the Asians involved in whatever sport or family event, the Apostolic's on a religious retreat, and the rich kids on a cruise somewhere in Mexico on vacation.

All the teenagers of the Trentino county were all pulled out of their normal summer vacation and their normal lives to all hear the same absurd news; the extremely opposed and disliked merge of Thurman and Ryder High was finalized and come this next school year, all of Trentino city's youth will share a single high school.
