"You look absolutely charming," her voice teased as Mingyu turned to face the woman who gave him a sweet smile. He chuckled as he adjusted his black blazer and brushed his hair back a little.
"Of course I do. I'm Kim Mingyu," he said arrogantly but both of them knew he was just hiding his nervousness. [Full name], his best friend of twenty years, shook her head as she straightened his tie and patted his suit free from imaginary wrinkles.
[Name] needed not to say anything but her faced showed how much she could see through him. "Don't worry. You're going to make everyone proud. I'm sure of it," she spoke gently, holding both his hands in hers and squeezed them softly.
Mingyu gave a more relaxed smile as he hugged her. "Thanks [Name]. You mean a lot to me," he cooed. [Name] gave a hollow smile as she stepped back and admired her friend. It's true seeing how much Mingyu had grown from being a whiny and clingy puppy to a well-matured and capable man. A truly ideal husband material.
A husband that won't be hers.
"I'm going to miss you so much," she whispered as she laid her head on his chest. Mingyu sighed as he hugged her again.
"Do you really have to go after the wedding?"
"I must. You know that, PuppyGyu," she looked up to face her best friend, smiling fondly at him despite the tears threatening to fall. "Just know that, all of my supports, my blessings and encouragement are yours. I trust you to make the right decisions alright?" she clutched the lapels of his blazers, resisting the urge to bury her face into his always comforting chest.
Mingyu said nothing except hug her tighter. He knew of her love to him but he could never return those feelings. Not when he had his life and marriage planned out for him. For the sake of his career. True feelings must be discarded for his image.
He knew he was being selfish but what could he do when harm could target the woman he grew up with. The one he had wished to marry as he got ready for bed thinking about her, the one he had counted the days till he would propose to her and see her walking down the aisle with a beautiful dress and a large bouquet of flowers.
Mingyu tilted her chin upwards and planted a soft kiss on her lips before drawing back, a sorrowful look on his face. [Name] wiped away the tear before it could fall and ruin her make-up. She gave a small laugh and shook her head. "Cheer up, Mingyu. It's your wedding day! You're marrying what most call the perfect woman for you," she punched his chest lightly, just as she did in her high school days when she was trying to bottle up her emotions.
Mingyu rubbed his chest and nodded. "Okay," he nodded again, clutching her hands again. "I'll see you?"
"I'll be there," [Name] promised. She gave another of her sweet smile before leaving his dressing room. Leaving him to wonder if he could change everything if he had stayed stronger, defend harder for their forbidden love.
Their story was just too much like Romeo and Juliet but both could do nothing about it. None at all.
~^~
She was beautiful but she wasn't [Name] as she strutted through the aisle, family, friends and paparazzi all admiring her flawless image as she smiled at Mingyu once she reached the altar. [Name] had to admit, they look perfect together.
Yoon Jiangxi shot a winning smile at [Name] who stood at the small stage at the corner of the room, the microphone in front of her as she watched. She could see the discreet glances of the members of Seventeen and the stares of her own band mates, Got7, watching her emotions carefully. She could feel the sadness and regret from them as she put on a smile for the sake of her best friend.
