THIS IS CHAPTER 1 RE WRITTEN! /*
Glancing over at my best friend Becky, I couldn't help letting a huge grin spread across my face. She smiled back, winking at me. Neither of us could believe what we were hearing. This seemed almost impossible, it was unbelievable and completely unexpected...
...and absolutely damn right amazing!
I would never have thought that my Dad would let me out of the house for almost a week by myself, totally unsupervised and without a responsible adult within a good 30 miles.
But he was!
“We have decided that, because of the brilliant way you two girls have handled your high school career and also because of your impeccable grades, that you deserve a reward. So yes, you can attend Glastonbury festival this year...on ONE condition.”
I heard my father’s matter-of-factly voice and nodded in anticipation, honestly not caring about any condition. I don't think he understood the lengths I would go to just to go to this music festival! If he really wanted, I would call him every hour and picture text him to show that I was safe. Whatever he wanted, I really wouldn't object at all.
Me and my best ever friend, Becky Montgomery, were sat in my front lounge with each of our parents. We had been slyly harassing them for weeks about going to Glastonbury, dropping hints and such but we never outright said anything. Until a couple of days ago when they announced this ‘meeting’ to us, we thought that all of our hard work had gone unnoticed. Oh, how wrong we were.
We listened intently as Becky’s Dad explained to us the one condition that we had to follow. After I heard it, my mouth dropped open of it's own accord. I was expecting it to be something like ‘don’t share a tent with any boys’ or ‘call us every hour so we know you’ve not been attacked by drug fuelled, alcoholic festival goers’ but it wasn’t. It was nothing like that.
“All you have to do is call us once a night at 11PM on the dot so we know that you are safe and sound. We also want you to call us when you first arrive so that we know you arrived safely, and on the train home so we know when to expect you back. There’s no excuse to not call as we’ve picked a time that is a full hour past festival curfew. I’d make sure that you call us because if you don't, we're heading straight there to pick you up. You both know for sure that that isn't an empty threat.”
We nodded in agreement and shared a knowing glance; we both did know it wasn’t an empty threat. Last year, Becky sneaked around to my house when she was grounded so we could eat Rocky Road Ben & Jerry's and bitch about the ass of a boyfriend that dumped her that day. All was well until Becky turned her phone on the next morning and found 78 missed calls from her family and an angry voice mail explaining that there had been a search party out all night looking for her. Yeah, I’m being totally serious. Even my Dad was out looking and we never even noticed he left the house!
So yeah, the threat to come looking for us definitely was not empty.
We left our parents and headed up to my room, closing the door before we squealed in excitement and hugged each other. This was turning out to be the best day of my life!
We started discussing what to pack and which bands to see, where to camp and what alcohol to take. This went on for hours until Becky's parents said it was time for them to leave. As we bid each other adieu, we agreed that we would tell the rest of our friends at school tomorrow.
