Chapter 23

Just call him, Lilah. He told you to call him. But he doesn't want to talk to me? What if he wants us to break up? What if he's mad because I accused him of something he never did. Maybe he's waiting for me to call him and he's doubting the same things I am. He could be sleeping. It's late. 3 am thoughts are deadly.

"Fuck it." I sighed and picked up my phone before pressing Cody's name and holding the phone to my ear. It didn't even ring once before Cody answered. "Baby, I'm so sorry." He immediately appolozied. "I'm sorry too." "Why are you up at this time?" "I couldn't sleep. I was wondering that maybe you could possibly kind of want to come and mayb-" "I'll be over as soon as possible." He laughed slightly. I smiled and then hung up.

After a while I heard the front door open and then close. "Delilah, you left the door unlocked." Cody said as he came into my bedroom. "Oh." "I locked it, don't worry." "Okay." I smiled faintly. "You look so tired." He noticed. "Drake's been crying for hours straight." I said and looked at the toddler cuddled up next to me.

"How come?" "I don't know." I felt a tear escape my eye. "Hey, don't cry. It's alright." Cody crawled up the bed and kissed my lips before wiping my tears away. "I'm here now and I won't let you cry." He said as his eyes locked with mine. "I mean it." He insisted. "I need to put Dra-" "You're not going anywhere." Cody said and pushed me down on the bed.

"But he needs to go in his bed and he nee-" "I'll put him to bed." "Be careful, he might wake up." "I got him." He smiled and left the room. "You can't sleep in this." Cody said when he came back in. I hadn't changed or anything.

"I don't mind." "I do." He said and pulled me towards the end of the bed. "Lift your arms up." He said and pulled my shirt off me before doing the same with my shorts. "It's really hot." I moaned. "Do you wanna sleep in that then?" "Mhm." I nodded and crawled up the bed.

Cody took his shirt off and layed next to me in the bed. "I'm sorry for saying what I said. I was mad and I don't know, I just- I find it hard to trust people." "I can tell." He let out a chuckle. "But I'm trying, I really am." "I know you are. It takes time and I know that, it's okay. You don't have to pretend to be anyone you're not." "You're not gonna leave me, right?"

"Are you crazy? I wouldn't leave you for the world." "But when you get mad I think that maybe you wanna leave." "Don't be silly. I love you no matter how mad I get." He said and held me tighter in his arms. "I know we argue a lot but that's what works for us. Some couples hardly ever argue but that's not and never will be us. We're happy doing our own thing."

"And you don't want anyone else?" "Never." He shook his head and kissed my forehead. "We're gonna make it, baby. I promise." "An-" I was interrupted by Drake starting to cry. "Oh my gosh." I sighed and then got up but Cody pulled me back down. "Stay here." "No, Cody. He's my brother." I said and left the room.

"What's wrong, little man?" I asked as I went into his bedroom. "It's scary." He said as I picked him up. "What's scary?" "The monster." "What monster?" "In there." He pointed to his closet. "There's nothing in there." I said as I opened it. Drake hid his face in my neck and started to cry again.

"Alright, how about I get Coco to scare the monster away?" I suggested. Cody appeared within seconds. "Where's this monster?" He asked. Drake pointed to the closet. "Get him!" He shouted. Cody opened the closet and pretended to wrestle with something. Drake giggle at him as he did it which made me smile.

"Kill him, Coco, kill him!" He laughed. "There we go." Cody dusted his hands off. "He won't be bothering you anymore." He took Drake off me. "Can you go to sleep for me now?" "I can try." He nodded. "That's good. Because Lilah needs to go to sleep too and she won't sleep until you're asleep." "Are you gonna kill her monster too?" "Yeah!" He said as he laid him in his crib.
