The light above me flashes for me to put on my seatbelt as we ascend into the air.
"Charlotte, please sit closer to the class so when we get off you won't get separated," Ms. Messinger says to me, but I act like I don't hear her and shrink back into my seat.
I don't see why she's on my case. Jax and Kane are even farther back than I am, but I guess I don't blame her. Jax is a six foot two hunk of rock who doesn't talk much, and Kane just looks like he's ready to mug somebody at any second and always seems to have a glare on his face. So yeah, I don't really blame her.
She calls my name a few more time, but I just look out my window at the clouds that seem to get darker with every second.

I wake to the sound of the captain coming over the intercom.
"Attention passengers, we would like for everybody to make sure that they are strapped in tightly. There is a major storm ahead of us and we will take a slight detour around it so we will be sure that nothing will happen that would put you in danger in any way. Thank you."
The light above me flashes again but I just ignore it. I look out my window over the wide ocean and see mist and clouds flashing by. A little longer after the pilot's announcement, I see land in the distance; not a lot but small. Is that a small island? I pull my face away from the window and look up at the seat belt light still blinking. I just stare and stare, and then all of a sudden it winks fast and then goes black. I turn my head to look at the person's light next to me but her light is out too. Then I notice more and more lights going out, over head lights, seat belt lights, tv screens, all going out like dominos, row after row, before the last row goes out.
The captain comes on again, but his voice is static, like the signal is bad. All I hear is, "....I... orry....ut......we.....an't....God...elp...us.."
And then it stops.
All the lights are out and I feel light as if I'm floating, like how astronauts feel on their first take off. My heart is in my throat and I feel like screaming, but I can't. My lungs are constricting and my adrenaline is pumping and I know exactly what is about to happen. Then we plummet 6,000 miles down into oblivion.

Screaming. That's all I hear. I can't see anything. I'm spinning around and around like a roller coaster. When I can focus on something at least a little, I see faces in terror -just stuck. I turn my head and see two more people floating with me. Then I start spinning again, but this time things start to spin with us. Baggage, trays, food, purses, everything and it's hitting everything else. Pipes are hitting baggage, baggage is hitting people, and trays are hitting baggage and people, all of it chaos. I feel something hard hit my side and then a sharp pain. I hear glass shattering and more screaming, so much screaming. Then something hits my head, and before I lose consciousness, I look out a window and see land, no, an island, and the ground is getting closer every second; closer, closer, closer, until I black out.
