I hate. Hate. Hate? No, despise is the word for this situation. I despise the game Tetris. I mean, old school games are good; some are good, some are bad, some...are unmentionable to talk about. This is one of those games for me, a 27 year old man who used to play video games for a living until he played this...thing. This was just a recent event actually, happened a couple months ago if my memory serves me right. Then again, I could be talking nonsense as my friends say I do all the time. Anyway, I won't say much; I can barely remember all the details myself honestly...but god, I wish I was able to help her.

It was a warm, foggy June, I had just come home from another long day at work- I was a part time Brooker at the time- and I sat down in my cozy, little chair, thinking about the day I had just had. Some argument I think with my boss about a failed transaction with another client we had had recently. My roommate at the time, whom I'll call...Sarah, plopped next to me and did her daily routine of talking about drama or something that had happened at work that day. She seemed a bit odd that day; I wish I saw sooner why. "You okay, Sarah?"

"Yeah," she responded, "just...I bought this game today, I'm not even sure if you'd like it all though."

"Well, why don't you bring it over?"

She smiled and disappeared into her room for a few moments. The air, at that moment, felt eerie. It was almost as if the room all of a sudden became full of depressed paintings, like in a museum. I remember feeling a sense of death almost, like something was about to happen that, before it happened, I knew nothing about. She came back from her room with a small wrapped package. She smiled again, more brightly than I had seen her smile since she got her first boyfriend. I should mention that she was, what high school jocks would call new players, fresh meat. Anyway, she handed me her gift, persistently telling me to open this small little package wrapped in newspaper. When I finally opened it, I felt elated but...something else as well. It was like I also felt a sense of dread looking at the cartridge reading those classic, blocky letters, Tetris. "Oh wow, look at this thing, it's so old!" I said excitedly. I was the type of person that played any type of game, but at that time, old school games like Super Mario or Sonic the Hedgehog were my schtick.

Sarah giggled as she she talked, ranting about how she knew these kind of games were my favorite and how she could only find this cartridge."The guy that sold me it practically wanted me to take it, said something like, 'God bless my soul' under his breath as he gave it to me."

"Maybe it's some sort of gimmick. You know how people will act foolish to sell a product."

"Oh shut up Patrick Star," she said, laughing at the new nickname.

Yep, my name is Patrick. I'm used to these stupid nicknames but it still makes me childish hearing them. "Can you feel it now Mr. Krabs?" I came back jokingly.

"Well come on! Let's go find the home this thing goes to!"

"No need, I have the console for it," I said, getting out of my seat. She happily got up, returning to her old self again.

I went into my old recording room and popped it in, sitting on an old couch I had gotten from an old friend recently. Sarah sat on my lap teasingly, as usual, attempting to flirt. "Mm this seat's too small Patrick."

"Oh piss off mate," I said jokingly. She got off laughing as the screen turned on. I started the console up after I inserted the cartridge in but I was met with a loud, almost deafening screech. We covered our ears almost in synch, it was simply too much for our ears. I tried turning off the system with my foot- I wasn't about to go deaf from a machine- but it got louder and louder until the noise stopped abruptly. I uncovered my ears, being met with a slight ringing noise that lasted a couple seconds. I looked at Sarah disconcertingly, "This is nothing, happens all the time," I said, trying to reassure her it was only a glitch.
