         Chapter 1 - Birthday Sex

It wasn't long ago that I was locked in that basement. Just two years ago I was forced in that dark, cold space. I made it out alive though. I was the only one that lived.

Josh... Gone.

Holland... Gone.

I was all that was left. I was alone in a world where no person should be alone. My name is Alexander Wilkins. This is my story.

I awoke in my bed. Bella, my German Shepherd, laid in my lap. I uncovered myself, disrupting Bella's slumber, and walked over to the window. Bright light blinded me, and I shielded my eyes. The neighborhood was beautiful as ever. Trees of all colors scattered across the area made the scene seem peaceful. Holland stood in the driveway below my window, waving. Giving her a wave and a 'one second' gesture, I shut the blinds.

"Alex!" A voice called from downstairs. "Are you awake yet?!"

"Yes mom!" I yelled back to her.

I quickly threw a shirt on and made my way downstairs, the aroma of pancakes and bacon filling the air. Bella followed me, and I could tell she could smell the food by the way she perked up and widened her eyes.

Mom rarely cooked, and when she did she made delicious food. Dad on the other hand...

Let's just say me and Holland used to play baseball with the biscuits he would make. That's how bad it is.

"What's the occasion?" I asked, plopping myself on the counter across from her and opening a Dr. Pepper.

"Oh nothing," she said simply. Of course there was something. She only cooked on special occasions.

"Don't lie," I said eyeing her suspiciously.

"I can't believe you forgot your own father's birthday," she replied.

And that's when dad walked in. He wore his Stewie Griffin pajama pants and a blue robe. His hair looked like he had a good nights sleep. Mom must have turned his alarm off again on purpose.

"Honey did you turn my alarm off again?" He yawned.

   How good am I?

Mom turned around. A shocked expression filled her face and she tried to play it off.

"Umm. No? What are you doing up so early? It's Sunday."

She sucks at playing things off.

Now I know what happens after this. Dad tells mom not to change the subject, mom comes up with a bad excuse, and she makes up for it either by arguing with dad or having sex with dad. I don't want to be here for either one of those options so I stop dad as he's about to say something that will lead to the nasty nasty.

"Holland and I are going to hang out. Is that okay?" I ask, finishing the last sip of my soda.

   "Sure," Mom says.

"Just be back by nine. You have school tomorrow."

"Don't remind me," I slip my shoes on and walk out the door just as I hear dad say, "Ellen, don't change the subject."

   Again. How good am I?
