Zach and I worked on organizing Sam's stuff for about another three hours before the job was complete. When we finished and went back outside, the sun was setting and night was beginning to fall. Sam was nowhere to be seen.

"He's probably asleep." I said after a second's silence, "we did take pretty long in there, after all."

I still can't shake the thoughts of Marlonne from my head.

"Sam!" Zach yells out.

Silence.

"Ugh." I huff, "SAM!"

A small distance away from us, some water starts to churn, before revealing Sam to us.

"You youngsters finish?" he asks happily.

I nod.

"Well, then, I suppose I have to pay you now, ohoho?"

I blush and look at my feet bashfully. "It'd be appreciated, yes."

He chuckles. "One moment, lassie."

Sam goes back into his newly organized cave, and comes out a few seconds later, holding a small leather sack which undoubtedly contains the gold we're receiving. It looks heavy and mostly filled, and I hope that Sam isn't about to overpay us for our services.

"In here you'll find 1000 Poke, which should be enough to buy that plot of land you want and hopefully have some left over."

I gape at him. "That's way too much money for what we did! There's no way we can take that!"

Sam just laughs. "An old hoot like me has no use for money anymore. Take it."

I reluctantly grab the sack, only because I know we really do need that money.

"Thank you." I tell him, not really knowing what else to say.

"Yes, thank you so much!"  Zach gushes.

"It's no problem." Sam says, and disappears beneath the waters of his pond.

While we now have the money to buy the land, we have no idea if we've actually been accepted as a Rescue Team. It looked like there were a lot of applications in the bin Pelipper threw our paper into. I'm scared we'll just be overlooked in the sea of papers.

After Zach and I find the Pokemon selling the plot of land and buy it, we head to the Pelipper Post Office to put our location information on file. After that's done, we head to the field we purchased.

"It's officially ours!" I say happily.

Zach looks like he's about to split his face from grinning. "Now we just have to see if we've been accepted!"

Nerves boil in my stomach. "I hope we make it."

Zach sighs, his smile fading a bit. "Me, too."

We curl up that night on the soft grasses of the field, both our minds occupied by thoughts of Rescue Teams.

I'm not even really sure why I'm on this Rescue Team, or agreed to be the leader. I have no idea how long I'll be a Pokemon, or even how long I'll be in this world. What if Zach wakes up tomorrow to find me gone? His dreams will be crushed.
