Rant Number Eight: The Title of Prime

Sorry. It's getting late. I'm getting loopy.
Anyway, this is another rant I've touched on before on my message board, and again, this is a very pressing issue that drives me absolutely crazy some days. Legitimately . . . Just . . . Why . . . ? What makes someone think "I'm going to add Prime to my OC's name so that people think my OC is the baddest shit ever! But then I'll make them nothing like a Prime because Primes don't party or do anything fun. They'll just be a Prime 'cause I can."
Ummm . . . What . . . ? Where does this come from? I mean, really, the title of Prime is sacred. Like, completely, seriously, sacred. This is a presitigious title. They don't hand it out like a business card for a company that's going out of business. They don't . . . They just . . . BLAH. No. It's a total, complete, no. Don't do. Please. Do not. Do it.
If you are going to have an OC with the title of Prime, you better be doing your damned hardest to make sure that your OC deserves that title. I kid you not. Make sure that your OC is legitimately Prime-like and that if they went before the council, they would be looked at and considered actual Prime material.
They should be humble, caring, protective, believe in equality, calm, level-headed, etc., etc.
If they cannot master these typical Prime traits, then I'm sorry, but they should not be a Prime. This is something that should be treated with respect. All of the original work should. When you make a fanfiction, it should be an homage to the original creator, not a stampede.
And when it comes to Primes, there have been a select few. And for a damn good reason. You cannot possibly look me in the eye and tell me that when you make some unruly nutcase a Prime, the creator wouldn't look at you and want to punch you in the face. I want to punch people in the face in these instances, really. That drives me crazy.
Imagine brushing a cat the wrong way, very, very roughly and painfully. The cat wants to claw your face, right?
That's how I feel when people make non-Prime behaving beings Primes.
"One is not simply given the title of Prime, it is earned." Or something like that. But still. Actual quote. From actual transformers. Not made up.
So you cannot possibly tell me that your utterly dorkish, uncontrolled 'Prime' OC is an actual Prime.
You just. Cannot. Seriously tell me that you think you can use the title of Prime however the slag you want. That title is not given to the family of a Prime. It is not given to the sparkbonded mate of a Prime. It is not given to the offspring of a Prime.
It. Is. Earned. Don't hand it out like a set of cards and you're playing 'Go Fish'. No. Don't do it. It's wrong on so many levels. And it drives me crazy. It may be a short drive, but that doesn't mean it has to be made just because it can. Thank you.
Do your research if you're going to get involved in the transfan universe. And for the love of Primus, do not abuse the title of Prime. Seriously. Just don't. Ever.
