"I know I've done it a million times before mum!" JJ exclaimed, agitation clear in her voice. "but I'm too tired to do it tonight! You do realise that dimensional travel takes alot of energy right?"
Julie, her mother, clenched her teeth, let out a huff, and responded.
"This argument is becoming tedious JJ. You will be travelling tonight wether you feel like it or not. You can sleep at your dad's house. I don't want to hear another word on the matter." She stressed the 'T' in the word 'tedious' so much it was almost as if the word tasted foul in her mouth.
Rolling her eyes and turning on her heel, JJ stomped off into her room. JJ slamed her door shut and heard the heavy 'click' of her mothers heels as she headed to what JJ guessed was her own bedroom. JJ flung herself onto her bed and just lay there, enjoying some peace. Unfortunately, the feeling was short-lived. With her blood bubbling still from the argument, JJ did what she could to escape that world.
Her bags were packed and she was ready to go. Her mother was sleeping by this point, and the scenario couldn't have suited JJ better. Talking to ones mother after a heated argument was not something one particularly enjoyed doing. To this, JJ was no exception. In more ways than not, she was like every other 16 year old girl. She was going through her final year in school and was dealing with typical teenage girl problems. Some things that sprung to mind included grades, boys, parents, friends- the list could go on. Either way, she was glad to avoid confrontation with her mother and instead sent a goodbye text.
She included all the generic bits and pieces used in goodbye messages. Halfway through the text she looked up from her screen and whispered under her breath, "what is this world coming to?" She shook her head and looked back down at her screen. It was unbelievable that her mother was just a few metres away in another room and she was sending her a text instead of actually saying goodbye. Muddled in with the mindless babble of the goodbye, JJ joked about how she would be awaiting her mothers famous mustard chicken dish upon her arrival home. Ironically, it was the only part she was serious about. She really was hoping she would be welcomed back to the Regular with a warm plate of delicious chicken.
That was what she called the dimension that was home to humans- the Regular. JJ reffered to the other dimension she lived in as the Myth.
After finishing her text and hitting send, she set her phone down on the bedside table and plugged it in to charge. No telephone company provided services that stretched across dimensions. It was especially suckish as it meant she couldn't talk to her Regular friends in the Myth and vice versa. But she managed. Being a Realm-Walker, JJ had learnt that if you found a soul in one dimension you could find a 'mirror sould' in the other. That is to say, her 3 bestfriends from each world could do a soul swap and no one would be the wiser. Except of course the minor detail that they would remember nothing about their lives.
With the thought of her friends in mind, JJ swung her blue duffle bag over her shoulder. She closed her eyes and readied herself for the journey ahead. To avoid getting trapped in a non-inhabitted, unknown and/or potentially dangerous dimensional plane, concentration was crucial. After a few deep breaths, she willed the travel to happen. Having her eyes closed made her drowzier still and made the process increasingly difficult.
Although it was difficult, she had gotten the travel started. Pins and needles swept through JJ's body, starting at the tips of her toes and travelling upwards until the top of her head. The pins and needles quickly ended and a new feeling came about. She felt power coursing through her veins. This was her favourite part. She felt as if power was radiating from her body. Within seconds the feeling was gone. Her body began to feel as if it were being condensed into utter nothingness. It happened slowly at first, but then so suddenly she had no time to feel anything before there was nothing left to feel.
