An ears twitched as a faint creaking noise could be heard, almost like a Twoleg nest entrance. A cat soon sprung to their feet as they realized what was happening.

Gild woke to a loud yowls and a cracking noise in the distance. "What's going on?" She hissed, glancing at the kit next to her. Terra raced into the old fox den, hissing at Gild to grab the kit and run out. Everything was going so fast, it was hard to figure out what was happening. Terra just barely poked her head out of the den as a giant tree slammed into the den, making it collapse into a mound of dirt and snow.
"TERRA!!" Ripple yowled, watching in horror as he watched the tree crash down. As soon as the tree landed he rushed over to the mound and started to dig.
"Fucking DIG!!!" He hissed at Oliver and Doris, while Gild stayed back to watch the kits. They dug and dug, swiping away mound of snow-mud and dirt along with ice chunks. Ripple dug, dug, and dug until he saw a piece of pale orange fur poke out of the snow. "Terra!!" He meowed, uncovering her head. "The tree's in the way! Try to push it off!" He started to push on one end of the tree, the others joining in.
As they pushed one last time, the tree fell off with a thud. Ripple proceeded to grab Terra by the scruff and drag her out, a trail of bloody snow following where she touched the ground. Blood was trailing from her mouth and bruised the area the tree fell on.
"Mumma!!" Acorn mewed, running up to Terra. He poked at her muzzle, trying to get some response out of her. The rest of the kits just starred on in horror and sorrow, knowing what had happened.
"She's dead, Acorn." Oliver gravely mewed, shocked just by the sight of Terra's limp body. "She died protecting the ones she loved."

Sorry about this being so quick and dark. I hope you enjoyed! Don't get too sad, though it's okay to cry!
