Chapter 14 - Forgiving the past

At breakfast I found out that Harry did indeed do exceptionally well at the second task. Each champion had to rescue the person they cared about the most. Harry had to save Ron and Hermione had to be saved by Victor Krum. Cedric had to save Cho and Fleur Delacour had to save her little sister. However Fleur did not manage to complete the challenge and Harry actually ended up saving Fleur’s little sister as well as Ron.

I ate quietly and avoided Severus as much as I could. I didn’t want anyone to suspect something so I was still eating in the Great Hall like I usually do, but I could tell some of my colleagues weren’t fooled. The food seem to just disappear off my plate, I wasn’t really paying attention to what I was eating. When I was finished I started to leave but Severus stopped me just outside one of the side entrances.

“Allyce-” Severus began.

“Can we just not do this Severus? You really messed up and I don’t need to hear what you have to say when I know it’s not enough for my forgiveness. Nothing you say to me is going to undo the damage you’ve already done. Besides, isn’t this what you wanted? For me to leave you alone?” I whispered softly, trying to convey all the disappointment and pain he’s caused me.

Severus was stunned. He wasn’t quite sure what to do or how to answer. I gave him a weak attempt at a smile and left to finish reading the letter my Mother wrote. What’s done is done. I’m in love with Severus which makes this so much harder. I love him so I won’t be mad at him forever. I’m not even mad at him at the moment. I’m just hurt and a little frightened.

 Would I feel like this forever? No, I know that it’ll fade and I think that’s when I’ll be able to forgive him but right now I can’t. He’s never cared for me. It’s clear I was only fooling myself when I thought he might and yet there is still a part of me that still wants him so badly to love me.

I wiped away the stray tears that had begun to fall and continued reading from where I had left off the previous night once I was in the privacy of my own quarters.

I wish I could have stayed with you but I couldn’t leave your Papa like that. I don’t know why but the blue fairy would only grant passage for the two of us so I took you across and did my best to set you up for a good life. I set up an account for you at Gringotts and you should have a small fortune by now – Albus has the key, you just have to ask for it.

The account is under your full name: Allyce Isabella Caoimhe [kee-va]Somerhalder. Your Papa will most likely call you Caoimhe rather than Allyce - he’s always liked the name, it means beautiful. I left instructions for Albus to follow and then I left you in his capable hands. I’m sorry for leaving you but when you read our story, you’ll understand why I couldn’t leave him again.

Belle was always a strange girl. She would rather read her days away than focus on embroidery and other duties her governess deemed important. Belle wasn’t naïve – she knew all about the things people would say behind her back. Things like how it wasn’t right that she read or sat in on the meetings the war council held.
