Prologue

A cold breeze swept hollow and empty across the abandoned cemetery, still never succeeding in coaxing away his shapely mint eyes from their subject of focus.Their haunted, longing gaze continued to lay upon not only a tomb stone, but the monument of his failures and misgivings.

"I am truly alone now...aren't I..?I let you down...hurt you even as I thought I was saving you.And now, even with all the sorrow I have eating me alive,I can't even try to make it better for you.Not that I could ever undo what I have done.I am still...so sorry."

His smooth voice was no more than a self-deprecating whisper, made soft with despair just like the rest of his features. The aching deep inside his chest was still dull, but an always present reminder of...everything.Finally a vibration from his pocket pulled him sharply from his despair, his frozen blue eyes widening in surprise. He immediately began to fumble with his trench coat pocket, until his smart phone fell into his waiting palm and quickly unlocked the screen.

Luciel....he's been trying to call me for quite some time...I guess I didn't notice. He's texting me now,he must be worried about me.

36 missed calls..?

As he replaces his slender silver phone,V turns and walks swiftly away through frosty grass back to his mountain estate...leaving only a bouquet of vibrant daffodils under the shimmering moonlight as proof of his being there at all..

CHAPTER 1

A sharp,high-pitched ringing cut through the quiet morning stillness, echoing of the four nearly bare walls with the same unenthusiastic announcement as every other morning. Time to wake up. Or Eun-Ae's case,to simply get up. She rolled over and slapped unhappily at the 'alarm' button to rid her bedroom of the offending sound. She wasn't even entirely sure why she even set the thing anymore;she had lay awake there for almost ten minutes, just like every other morning. Eun-Ae's sharp, stormy eyes watched almost blankly as golden morning light filtered through the plain white curtains hanging too perfectly from her window, shining uninvited on her bed sheets.

After she reminded herself she has work to do,she kicked her blankets away and rolled out of her bed.Already regretting the cold morning air that comes with 5:30,she found her way to the kitchen first. Not feeling hungry, she quickly brewed some coffee and wasted no time in drinking it down.

Wasted time is wasted money.

Just as quickly, she rubbed her still tired eyes and yawned her way to the bathroom to finish preparing for her long day.

**********************************

Her quick shower out of the way,she lost no time in pulling out her work attire and was soon slipping into a stiff, custom made black cocktail dress with matching evening pumps. The dress itself was adorned with the symbol of her work place:The Midnight Lotus, her family's restaurant. Finally finished adjusting her dress, she turned to her vanity and began the painstaking process of applying her make up and pinning her dark hair perfectly.

Impressions are the most important

These little reminders were left to her by her father, the one who left her his pride and joy restaurant as well as all of it's responsibilities. She had been taught the trade young, including cooking lessons from him.She was his only heir and he was determined to make her a perfect fit for her role. She stared into her mirror blankly. She looked like an entirely different person now,the person everyone knew.

Hearing her watch's digital beep reminded her work was still a priority as of now.She stood and strode to her front door, stopping only to swing her purse onto her shoulder.

***********************************

Parking her car behind the expensive,up scale restaurant she unwillingly owned in the reserved parking area, she stepped out into the now glaring sunlight. She made her way to the employee entrance, back straight, head high, eyes forward and steps sure. There was no hint of doubt or fear about her,she was fierce and determined.

As soon as the entrance door swung open, the sound and smells of cooking, laughing, and all general dining could be witnessed in a flood.A warm, yet refined atmosphere wrapped up any and all who entered. The delicious fragrances of all the different kinds of food and drink The Midnight Lotus provided mixed drifted throughout the entire establishment invitingly.

There was nothing particular about Eun-Ae's personality, nothing distinct or very unique.Except for one:She was sharp when it came to cooking, nothing at all escaped her notice.

As she made a beeline for her office, she gave a hasty look over the attendance board.

Good, everyone is here today. It will be a very good day for business.

So without further distraction, she entered her office and settled into work.

*********************************

A groan escaped her as she stretched her underused limbs. She glanced outside to see the building's outdoor lights had been turned on,shining into the darkness of night.Eun-Ae massaged her right wrist, wishing she could forget the painful stiffness in her back as well as her sore feet.

I hate this...

In fact she always has.She never wanted it,but it was all she knew,It had to be done, even though she and Gui-Jin weren't actually close, even though she hadn't wanted to promise, she had promised to do what she could for this place he loved so much.Nonetheless, she looked over her shoulder in discouragement at the plated name tag that read: Eun-Ae Dahn. She sighed and turned to her desk again, ignoring the frustration of her situation. As she began to rub her temples in attempt  to chase away her stress, her pocket began to vibrate.

She quickly straightened and fished out her smart phone to find a text from....'unknown'?
