I glance at my clock on the wall to check the time. 5:20pm. Maggie will be home in a few minutes. I finish setting up the table with our dinner. I had cooked lasagna, baked BBQ chicken, and brown rice and beans with chocolate cookies for dessert. Everything is set.

The plan was dinner, then we'd shine our halos. It was one of our duties as angels. Yes, we are angels, watching high above the world. We guard man and guide them into doing right, kinda like a conscience.

I hear a knock and run to the door. Maggie stands there with a huge platter of brownies.

I open the door, "Hey, come in!"

She steps inside. We head into the dining room and she places the platter on the table, "I invited Cliff," my boyfriend, "And Michael. They should be here any minute." Seconds later, we hear the doorbell. I scamper over to the door and open it. Both of them were carrying their duffle bags.

"Another sleepover?!" I say surprised.

Cliff chuckles and pecks my cheek. "Why not? You don't miss us?"

"We hung out just yesterday," I embrace him with a hug.

We all head to the dining room table where the food is and take our usual seats. We join hands as Michael blesses the food. As soon as he finishes, Maggie is already tearing through her lasagna. Mouth stuffed with her meal, she turns to me asks, "So, what did He tell you?"

The room gets silent, all eyes on me. She's referring to the meeting I attended with the council and The Big Guy. The Big Guy runs the heavens and keeps an eye on the humans. He's always aware of the past, present, and future.

I swallow my food hard then break the silence. "He senses a great evil that's lurking in the shadows. One that's power is gradually growing stronger. It is predicted to come sooner than we intended. 4 months from now... He thinks it's from hell, trying to dethrone Him." I look each of them in the eyes, each one hardset with a different emotion. Cliff's with anger, Michael's with sadness, and Maggie's with fear.

"D-dethrone?? But, nobody can pull something like that...right?" She says with a shiver.

Michael clears his throat, "Even if it could be done, how could anyone try to stop it. We don't have an army."

"That's why they summoned me," I respond. "They asked to put one together."

That's when Cliff finally speaks. "How in all the heavens do they expect you to do that?!" He blurts out, completely outraged. "You know nothing,NOT A SINGLE THING, about combat and being in battle!"

I nod, "Very true, but it wasn't something I could simply just get out of, Cliff. I was commanded to do it. So I will to the best of my ability."

A deadly silence sweeps the room yet again. Cliff silently got up and stepped out if the house, slamming the door and making Maggie jump until her seat. We hesitate but continue to finish dinner.
