So, I wrote this one night randomly, quite a while ago. (I havn't been on here in forever!) Only my best guy has read it, he said I should post it. So here it is. A short story about :
The Breakup Song- Greg Khin Band (song on the side)
Wasted Love By: Ashley M. Cole

//We had broken up for good just an hour before//
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Justin sat on the top of the stairs of his floor's apartment building complex. It was the top floor and the last one to the right, marked 202. He had been living there for what felt like a blur of a year.
He wasn't alone though, he was with his girlfriend Courtney. She had bleach dyed hair with her brown roots of her hair pocking though at the top. Justin had fallen in love with Courtney in high school. Well when she was in high school. He was a graduate when he met her when she entered the tenth grade.
She was now seventeen and he was twenty one living in the rough end of Chicago.
Justin was working at the mechanics shop on Harland drive and Courtney was finishing up school.
He fell in love with her big doe eyes, her small lean body and her caressing voice.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
//now I'm staring at the bodies as they dance across the floor//
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Justin loved Courtney. But Courtney was troublesome. He should have known something was up when her family didn't react so wildly to her moving in with a older man they didn't know. It was small things at first. Sometimes she would dress provocatively, she smoked, she always smoked. She had her cigarettes in the garter of her leotard. She smelt of spearmint, she always had the white lifesavers at her disposal.
Justin smoked as well and he enjoyed his liquor. Courtney enjoyed alcohol also. More than she would like to admit. But this was the ghettos of Chicago everyone did something troubling. She always had parties in the flat with people attending that Justin never knew. He knew they weren't from school because they were old. Older than Justin even. They were always draped on the floor or couch out of their minds. Marijuana was a dominant aroma in the air.
Justin tried to shrug it off but when he had caught her snorting a line of cocaine off the bathroom floor he had to set rules. This was four months ago. Things had been fine after. She made him dinner every night after work, she said she didn't do anything but smoke cigarettes and drink a little. Partying off limits. He believed her because they never lied to each other. And when they and sex, it wasn't sex. It was making love.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
//and the band slows the tempo and the music gets you down//
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
That night was different. Justin was off work at nine instead of ten. Justin knew it was their two year anniversary. She was probably cooking something fancy at home. Justin had purchased a bottle of scotch and a ring for her. It was modest, one diamond and a gold band. She would be eighteen soon. He was going to marry her. Justin knew it for the day her saw her outside the strip mall. He knew that she would be his.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
//it was the same old song with the million dollar sound//
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When Justin neared the door soft music was playing. He let a small laugh escape his lips. The house was at usual and dinner looked to be in the oven. Justin opened his mouth to call for her thumbing the ring in his pocket. But caught sight of Courtney's bra sitting at the end of the room by the hallway entrance. Justin placed the scotch on the table rubbing his chin with a seductive grin. She was going to skip dinner and jump ahead. Justin liked the way she thought.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
//they don't write them like that anymore. They don't wright them like that anymore.//
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Justin excitedly pulled off his grease layered coveralls and tossed them on one of the dining chairs in the kitchen. Slowly he pulled off his white t-shirt to show his little-more-than modest body. He too slipped off his shoes and socks. Justin decided to keep his jeans on as he walked his way into the kitchen checking his face in the warped reflection the the toaster. He stuck out his tongue and made a face.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
//we've been living together for a million years.//
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After Justin washes his mouth out in the sink with some plain water then splashes his face clean and wipes it dry. His blonde hair could use a cut since it hangs over his ears a bit but Courtney says his messy look is sexy.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
//now I feel so strange at how great this feels.//
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It's nine almost nine thirty and Justin looks to the hall were her lacy bra sits. He smirks and walks over picking it up then placing it on the coffee table and walked to the bedroom door. The music is getting louder. The slow seductive beat really setting the mood. The door handle naughtily has her underwear hung on it which makes Justin grin even wider at how kinky Courtney is.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
//and the juke box plays a song I used to know. And now I'm staring at the bodies at their dancing so slow.//
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Justin slowly opens the door it's dark. But he makes out movement on the bed. "Courtney." He breathlessly says. The movement stops and there's rustling and Justin leans masculinly by the door frame. Justin bites his lip and flicks the light switch.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
//they don't write them like that anymore. They don't write them like the anymore.//
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
First his eyes trail up Courtney's naked legs. Up her familiar body. But then the smile is gone. And the music is blurred in Justin's mind. "Justin." She says shocked pulling the covers over her full breasts. Justin staggers and holds the dresser at his side for support. He hasn't drank but he feels very dizzy. 'Where's the floor, help me lord were's the door.' He thinks as his world spirals. It had been very clear this night was not planned for him.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
//Now I wind up staring at an empty glass//
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Justin finally had gravity come to him as he tries to put the pieces together. Now it is just him and Courtney alone, in the empty apartment. She sits guiltily on the bed now wrapped in her nightgown looking sultry as ever.
Justin swallows thickly as he speaks. "Do you know what tonight is." He says rather calmly. Almost scarily. She doesn't respond. She just stares at him with sad eyes. "Tonight is two years. Two years of wasted love."
She cries and Justin watches her bitterly. "I think you should leave."
"What?" She mutters through the tears.
"I think you should pack your stuff and leave Courtney." He says even more tranquil than the last time. She reaches for him but Justin flinches away repulsed. Her hand falls to her side.
"Fuck you." She is now crying hot angry tears, she stands up and looks Justin in the eyes. "I thought you loved me." Justin laughs his famous laugh and his eyes crinkle at the side. "So did I." She's furious now. She goes to slap him but he catches her wrist and pushes her against the door frame roughly. Not enough to hurt her, but to scare her.
"You have an hour to pack. Then. Leave." He lets her go and she flinches away in fear and crumples against the wall. Justin leaves the apartment taking a glass and the scotch with him.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
//now I wind up staring at an empty glass.//
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So Justin sits. On the steps with nothing but his jeans on. His bare feet against the gritty hallway carpet. He refills his glass and takes another long swig. He still doesn't know what happened. He's broken. He's broken. She can't fix what's been done. Now he seems to look back and rethink her adjusting her skirt when she was with the man on the couch, or when she had no underwear when he picked her up from her part time job at the Laundromat. He was being blind. She was just a child. He shifted and the ring fell out of his pocket.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
//Cuz it's so easy to say that you forget your past//
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
He picks it up and his heart breaks. He shoves it back into his pocket, if he looks at it any longer he might just throw it. He sits out there longer than an hour. It's about two hours when she comes outside of the room holding belongings in suitcases and plastic bags. She has a bitter scowl on her young face. It makes Justin sad. "You'll want me back." She persists, not snobbish just informing. Justin runs a hand though his hair looking her over before pulling his gaze from her. He wants her now, he wants her forever.
"Goodbye." Is all he knows how to say. Nothing else but an old travellers parting line. No sweet chaste kiss or bad syrupy line. It is really goodbye because Justin said so. And Justin does not lie. She lets one last tear escape her eye. She picks up her bags, Justin does not offer her help. She leaves not looking back. Justin pours another shot into his glass.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
// they don't write them like that anymore, they just don't write them like that anymore X2 they just don't, no they don't ha ha. They just don't write them like that anymore.//
