"Miss Darcy, your coffee is getting cold." I lifted my head off my fake, wooden desk, trying my best to wake up. "Thanks, Jimmy." I walked over to the lounge and concocted a cup of coffee for myself. The case I was working on was on something I really didn't want to deal with. It was the case of a 7murdered mother. She had three children, and a husband. i have to fix this for her family's sake.
Being an investigator doesn't have a clock in and clock out time. If you get call, you have to go. You can't really plan anything because you know it's gonna be interrupted. You have a duty. A duty that saves lives. The world needs people like you, so you can't quit.
I decided to go home, because there was nothing new for me and it was almost eight . Mr. Maguilty, my boss, encourages us to stay at least until 6 pm. i stay later, because when it's dark and silent, I work the best. Many of the crew members leave for dates and families at home, and people to spend time with. I go home to a television.
My ride home was unpleasant. I have quite a nice car, with a built-in Pandora app. I listen to this instead of the radio, because the radio has too many Chatty Kathy's. The songs that played were all songs that reminded me of sad times, even though they were long gone and in the past. The lights from the city flashed off and on my face. I watched teenagers smiling and laughing together, walking into various public placs, about to have a great night. I told myself that I do actually have a life, and I do actually have fun. Remember that time when you... I never had fun. Well, since Keegan left, nothing has been particularly exciting.
I opened the door to my apartment, having to jiggle the key for the thousandth time, because the idiot before me "burned" it. I set my keys in a round, crystal bowl right next to the door so I wouldn't lose them. I slipped off my heels and threw them into the hamper. I shook my hair out of its super tight bun, and the ponytail holders fell shortly after.
I pulled on my favorite pajamas, black, white, and red Mickey and Minnie. It was just a tank-top and oversized sweatpants with a HUGE red bathrobe hanging pathetically off my shoulders and down to my knees. When I called the Chinese place, they already knew what I want, so they were here in less than 45 minutes. Gosh, I love New York.
"Hey Jun," I said as he handed me the food. "Herro Terra!" His smile was always hilarious paired with his squinty eyes. He had such a small face, but his smile was so large. "Cia Cia, Jun! Zai Jian!" (Thank you, Jun. Goodbye!) He smiled once again. "Zai Jian!" He squealed. With that, he left.
I sat on my black couch, watching my Samsung television from my stone mantel. The fire wasn't lit. "No! Who is Napoleon Bonaparte! How old are YOU?!" I get pretty worked up over Jeopardy. Keegan used to always watch it with me and tell me to calm down. I'm pretty obsessed with it. I always calculate what would happen if i were in the game and how much money the other players would get. I have no life. After Jeopardy, I munched on Honey Chicken and chow mein while I watched, The Notebook. When the movie ended, I switched to ice cream and watched Twilight. I must have dozed off during Twilight, because I woke up the next morning on my carpet with a spoon stuck to my face and melted cookies and creme all over my shirt. The clock on the counter read 6:05 AM. "Crap," I sighed. I'm late. I rushed into the shower, and it's programmed to play me classical music while i bathe. Today, it was Bach. "SHUT UP, JOHANN!" I screamed at the top of my lungs. Apparently, my systen heard me. I got out of the shower, my makeup done, and hair fixed in under thirty minutes. I slipped into my most comfortable dress I had, and zoomed out the door with my flats and paperwork in my hands. 6:40. 20 minutes to get to work. I drove as quickly as I could, trying not to speed. In fact, I was driving too fast, and rammed my higlander into a Tundra. A Tundra. I got out of the car and wrote him a check. "Sorry. I'm late for work, I have to hurry-Lifeor death- "I was talking really quickly because 1. I just ran my car into another person and 2. I have to hurry. It didn't look like here was any damage, so I seemed to be okay. "Terra?"
