Bad Reputation

The music was loud - too loud - actually giving me a rather unpleasant headache. I must admit, I didn't really want to be at this party, but it was my first day back for months and I think my friends needed to see me make an effort.

Loads of people were here; half of them I didn't even know and it had taken me an hour and a half to take pictures with different people. I didn't mind that, but I would just rather have been chilling at home with Aaliyah watching Harry Potter or something.

"Here, Mendes" Brian said, patting me on the shoulder. He handed me a beer and I smiled back at him as a thank you.

"Good to have you home" Ian joined in.

"Good to be home, man" I smiled at them.

"Look guys, there she comes" Brian laughed, pointing at the front door. My eyes shoot at her - knowing even before I looked - who he was talking about.

Her.

"Of course she does, like she would ever miss a party" Ian mocked her.

I secretly rolled my eyes at them as I felt the anger begin to pump around in my body. She'd always had a bad reputation attached to her for as long as I could remember.

People called her all sort of things without even knowing her properly; they just went along with what everyone else thought of her, instead of thinking for themselves once in a while and that made me mad. Every one bragged about having seen her naked, but I don't think anyone really has.

I didn't get it though, she was nothing like she put herself out to be. Actually, I'm pretty sure she was the complete opposite of what people were saying about her.

Her label said slutty and maybe a bit too confident, but her eyes told another story: insecure and terrified of the world.

There were numerous of rumours starting all this back in the days; rumours that I don't even get why people would believe but she never defended herself from the lies, she just let people imagine what they wanted and from there on, it just spun out of control.

She knew it very well - what people were saying about her - she might even act on it sometimes, but really, I think she was just protecting herself from getting hurt once again and it still amazes me, that no one else seems to get that.

How can they not read that in her fragile, little eyes? It's written all over them. Or maybe, I just spend too much time watching her, taking in her beauty hiding underneath the fake surface.

I watched her as she swayed into the room; her hips moving, her hair blowing gracefully, every eye on her. She hated it, the attention, but she knew it was there.

And instead of running from it she acted as if she owned it. Sadly, that meant acting as if every rumour about her was true.

I've often wondered how she carries that weight on her shoulders without breaking? But then a voice inside my head kept telling she probably broke down in tears more than I thought.

She walked towards my friends and I, heading to the kitchen for something to drink. I felt my muscles tighten when she reached us. Brian smirked at her, biting his lips playfully. She didn't take note to it, though.

"What's up y/n? You're here late" Brian started, but Ian cut him off.

"She probably found some dude on the way here" he joked, making the group around me laugh mockingly at her. Honestly, all I wanted to do was punch Ian in the fucking face.

"Funny guys, funny" she told them.

"Oh, it's wasn't a joke. We all know your reputation" she smiled fakely at his offensive words before leaning in closer.
