okay, it's been a hot minute.

yes, i haven't been in touch with you guys in forever. yes, i've grown out of writing meltdown. however my love for this art has actually multiplied. i don't know when i'll pick up this fanfic, or if i ever will, but it's time for some real talk.

carl grimes.

please don't read any further if you haven't watched the midseason finale because you'll definitely encounter some major spoilers, but oh. my. god.

i'm sorry, but how does what happened make any sense?? at all?? carl/chandler have been on this show for seven years. seven. and gimple deems it a good idea to just kill him off with a walker bite. absolutely ANY character could have died from the infection, it's just a way to get them off the hands of the showrunners. but this is carl grimes we're talking about here, arguably the most interesting character on the show, and the kid who's survived every single thing that's come his way since day one.

atlanta. the farm. the prison. shooting his own mom. the governer. attempted sexual assault. the wolves. the saviors. a damn HEADSHOT for crying out loud. he's somehow managed to keep his humanity through everything, and this show is trying to tell its fans he dies from a walker bite.

i get it, it's how the apocalypse goes, but from the perspective of someone who wants to keep twd running, i'd tread carefully. just because this is a ruthless world the characters are living in doesn't mean the writers can just pull anything and have their ratings skyrocket. you have to play strategically.

because as of right now, people are PISSED. not just sad, but pissed. midseason finale ratings are lower than they've been in SIX YEARS. andrew lincoln is finding it difficult to even ACT. that should say something. and please don't even try to compare carl's death with glenn's. i've seen a lot of that lately, but what people fail to realize is that it was glenn's time to go. it made sense, he'd lived his character's life, and it was even expected at that point. carl.. he wasn't quite there yet. not even close, actually. carl grimes was a symbol of hope. his story impacted so many people. where do the writers expect twd to go without him?? he was the future, the drive of the entire series.

"but his death will develop rick's storyline." no, it will cause his world to come crashing down. both rick and michonne will be vulnerable and completely lost.

"rick needs to a reason to keep negan alive." if it takes killing one of the most dedicated characters on the show, is negan really meant to live?

any excuse gimple tries to pull is just that: an excuse. his death wasn't necessary, and not even just unnecessary. it made. no. sense.

at all.

characters like gregory have now outlived carl grimes.

and not to mention the way amc treated chandler. he bought a house closer to the filming location, and was even going to take a gap year off of college to focus on acting. he'd spent all of his life working for them, yet they announced his death two weeks before his 18th bday, and two episodes before they filmed e8. hell, they didn't even give him the proper screentime until minutes before he revealed his bite. that's complete and utter unprofessionalism on their part.

amc needs to fix this. gimple needs to be fired and replaced with someone who actually understands the show, the comics, and the actors involved. i saw someone say they need to rerun the episode, or scrap it altogether. rehire chandler and delay the second half of the season to refilm. i completely agree.

again, i'm sorry this isn't an update, but something needed to be said about what's going on. i love you guys, and best of luck to chandler.

xx always,
G
