Chapter 14: Fireflies

I woke up in the arms of my Penny. He was still fast asleep. His bare chest rising up and down as he let out deep purrs from within him. I could clearly hear his heart beating. Full of life. Such an amazing creature to fall in love with.

It was still the middle of the night but for some odd reason I couldn't sleep. I instantly grew another horrible headache. I groan in pain and sit up, waking up Penny.

"What wrong, love?" He says with groggy eyes.

"Can't sleep. Horrible headache. I'm also starving." I said while holding my forehead.

"You're not the only one starving." Penny says with a yawn.

Penny stands up and I could see his bare body glisten in the moonlight. I smile slightly at the sight.
Penny begins to dress himself up.

"What are you doing?" I asked while still sitting on the mattress.

"Getting you food." He said while giving out another big yawn.

"Penny I can wait until morning, you're obviously still tired." I said while wincing in pain from my headache.

Penny instantly kneels down to my eye level and holds my face with his hand.

" I can fix your pain." He said

"How?" I replied

Penny then began to open his mouth, eyes rolling to the back of his head. His mouth opened wider and wider and there they were. The dead lights. Those beautiful dancing orbs.
I looked directly into them, filling my body with energy and power.
Penny closes his mouth and I snap out of the trance.

"Better?" He asked

"Yes." I replied.

My headache had gone away completely. Like magic.

Penny proceeds to button up the last buttons on his suit.
Once he was all dressed up he jiggles, causing the familiar bells to ring. I giggle lightly at his silly actions.

"I'm coming with you." I said as I quickly began to dress myself up as well.

Penny leans by the wall with crossed arms as he watches me get dressed.
Once I was ready and done I mock his jiggle, causing Penny to give me a slight smirk.

"Hop on, princess." Penny exclaims while pointing to his shoulders.

I walk towards him and he lifts me up, placing me on his shoulders. He gave me his hands to hold onto for support. He walks a few steps forward before feeling the familiar cold rush of air. We were now outside the The Neibolt house.

The street was quiet and the air was crisp. The only noise was the commotion happening over by my apartment complex.
A sudden rush of guilt and sadness came over me, but I brushed it off quickly. Not wanting to upset Penny.

"Where do you want to go?" He asked.

"Well, I can't go home so...surprise me" I said with a sooth tone.

I looked down to see his reaction and he smiled ear to ear.

We continued to walk as I rested my head upon his cottony-orange hair. For a clown that lived in the sewers, he didn't smell like it. Instead he produced out a sweet smell. Like perfume. I couldn't never get enough of it.

I started to notice penny taking turns into places I wasn't familiar with. I was lost, but he clearly wasn't. He navigated through as if he knew this place like that back if his hand.
Things were dark but I could finally see hints of moonlight bounces off something shiny.
It was water.
My eyes finally adjusted and I noticed we were at a pond, ringed by tall grass.It was surrounded by life. Frogs, crickets, and other creature noises. Fireflies lighting up all around. It was beautiful.

"I thought we were gonna get food" I said with a confused voice.

"I thought it could wait. You did say surprise you. Are you surprised?" He responded.

"Yes, it's beautiful. How did you know about this place?" I asked while still looking around at the breathtaking scenery before me.

"For a being as old as time, you know everything, dear." He responded as he seated me down on the ground.

I sat there overlooking the dark murky water. Ripples from the jumping frogs could be seen in the moonlight.
The pond was alive, with noises of woodland creatures lurking by, but with Penny by my side I felt safe. Nothing could harm me.

"Not as long as I'm here." Penny says casually as he takes a seat next to me.

"What?" I responded.

"Nothing can harm you as long as I'm here." He says.

"How did you know I was thinking that." I questioned him with a confused look on my face.

"I can read your mind." He says as he picks up a rock and holds it in his hand.

"Y-you can? I didn't know." I said with a shocked face. Blushing, as I remembered all the past things I thought about that were about him.

He nodded his head yes and placed the rock back down on the ground.

I tried to look away to keep him from seeing my blushing face.

I stood up as I tried to catch a firefly that was flying by. I struggled as I walked over rocks and tall grass to reach it.
Penny quickly stood up and with his tall stature and large hands he caught it in mid air.
He opened his hand slowly and revealed the glowing bug. I smile at the glowing light as they reminded me of Penny's dancing orbs within him. He lets the bug fly off and walks over to the tall grass.

"Look" He says as he sways his arm over the tall grass.

Thousands of glowing bugs were released from the tall grass as they danced above us. The scene was beautiful. My face was in awe as they swirled around me and Penny. It was breathtaking. The moment was soon cut short as they flew away quickly.

"Penny, that was amazing!" I said as I ran into his arms.

Penny hugged me tightly and lifted my head up so my eyes could meet his. He presses a soft kiss on my lips and I kiss back. Enjoying the moment.

Penny quickly backs up and sniffs the air. His eyes turning into the dangerous colors.

"What wrong" I said as I started to worry.

He didn't respond but instead pushed me in closer to him as his eyes gazed around the dark.
Snarling and growling.
Panic was now setting in as I stayed close to penny holding onto his suit.
I could hear human voices and see lights in the distance.
Penny stood his ground. I was now filled with fear.

"Penny" I said with a shaky voice.

I sudden sharp pain came from within my stomach and I could feel something move within me. The pain was sharp enough to send me to the ground and groan in pain.

My groan was loud enough to get the people's attention and walk straight towards us.

Penny took his attention to me and kneeled down, I was groaning and crying from the pain that was coming within my stomach. Penny looks down and sniffs. I could see his eyes widen and shifting from red to blue.

"WHAT THE HELL IS THAT?" I heard the voice say.

Penny payed no attention to them and instead kept his eyes on my stomach.

"GET AWAY FROM THE GIRL OR I WILL SHOOT!"

I looked over and noticed it was two police men. My pain prevented me from speaking but I was trying to get Penny to get his attention to them.

With Penny's eyes still fixed on my stomach he utters words that sent chills down my spine.

"Hello little one." Penny says as he puts his hand on my stomach.

The pain was unbearable to the point where I was feeling faint.

I could feel myself daze away before hearing a gunshot go off and Penny's groans as he hits the floor.....
