Chapter 2: When I was Eleven my Dog Died
It was Friday, which meant that me and Molly could go to Al's ice cream shop after school, like we always did.
I quickly put on a t-shirt and shorts and ran downstairs. I smiled when I saw my dog Skittles sleeping in her bed. "Skittles!" I called, "Come here girl!" I patted my leg to get her attention.
I waited for her to run over to me but she never did. (That's weird, she always came when she heard her name.) I walked over to her and knelt down next to her bed and gently pet her soft fur but immediately removes it once my hand made contact with her ice cold body.
I shot up and darted towards the stair case. "Mom! Dad!" I called. Tears started to fog over my vision.
My parents both ran down the stairs, my dad in nothing but his Boxers and my mom wrapped up in her favorite blue robe.
"Zachary what's wrong?" She asked worriedly, her arms open. I ran into them and cried.
"Skittles i-isn't moving! A-and she's f-freezing!" I said through choked sobs.
My dad walk over to Skittles' bed. When he looked at us, his eyes were full of sadness. He shook his head slowly. Mom and both knew that he meant that Skittles was gone. I started to cry again and ran up to my room.
I shut my door and flopped on my bed. The dog that's been around since before I was born, was now gone. I heard my parents talking outside my door, but couldn't make out what they were saying.
My parents let me stay home instead of going to school, and they canceled on Molly. I felt really bad about it, but I was just so sad. My dog was gone forever.
I heard the doorbell ring but didn't run down to answer it like I usually would, because Skittles would always run after me.
I flopped back into my bed, about to cry again when my mom called my name, "Zach! Molly's here!"
I rolled out of bed and walked down stairs. I saw Molly sitting at the dinning table holding two cups of ice cream and a movie box.
She must have heard me coming down because her head shot in my direction and smiled. She got up and hugged me. "I heard what happened." I sighed heavily, "I brought your favorite ice cream and a movie I thought you'd like!"
We spent the evening eating cotton candy ice cream and watching "Ironman". We talked and laughed. I felt so happy but yet still sad.
I'm just glad I have Molly to cheer me up.
