After a day of answering phone calls, making copies and secretly playing Candy Crush Saga on her tablet, Chandler stepped out of one of the offices of the Sunset Valley City Hall. She locked the door behind her and pulled her crossbody purse around her shoulders. She knew she was leaving thirty minutes early but she had an appointment for a Mani/pedi scheduled later and she wanted to beat the evening rush. Plus she was getting bored as hell sitting at a desk all day.
As she went down the stairs of the building, occasionally stumbling on her high heels she snapped her fingers. "Shoot, have to go back." She said to herself and retraced her steps back to the office, still stumbling. It was very difficult to get used to wearing heels but she didn't mind. She loved her heels.
Chandler unlocked the office door, looked around before stepping back in. A moment later she left again and rushed out of the building.
A couple of the town's busy bodies were standing nearby and observed the entire scene.
The next day, it was noticed that $2000 was missing from the office of the city hall. Not just missing. Someone had pried open the locked drawer where the money was kept. It happened sometime in the evening after most of the staff had left.
Chandler was the last person at the office. She was the only one there who could have done it said the witnesses and busybodies who saw her leaving the office.
Chandler couldn't believe it, especially when everybody started accusing her. They took away her job at the city hall because she was no longer trustworthy.Within days the entire town knew of the crime. Chandler couldn't walk down the street without people staring at her, and not because she had been born a boy and was now transgender. They stared because crime had come into the sleepy little town of Sunset Valley.
And Chandler was responsible.
