Phil's Accident (Phan) Prequel to "The Edge"

SCREECH.

"Phil please don't leave"

BANG.

"I'll be back soon Dan, I promise"

IS HE OKAY?

"I love you"

HE ISN'T BREATHING.

"I love you too"

"Tell Dan I love him".

"WHAT?!" The brunette wailed at the doctor "I want to see him, let me see him!" He continued

"I'm sorry, but it's family only, are you family" the doctor calmly asked with her angelic voice.

"I'm his closest friend, shouldn't that be enough!?" He began to argue.

"I'm sorry but I'm going to have to ask you to calm down, you are in a hospital where there are patients recovering." She asked calmly "Now, please take a seat and wait" she said pointing Dan to a chair before leaving with her clip board disappearing into Phil's hospital room.

Dan sat with his head in his hands crying his heart out. Phil, his best friend, had just been in a severe accident on the highway, a heavy truck collided with him, front on crushing Phil's legs as well as sending a log into his front window just missing his head but caused him to fall into a deep coma due to the shock and impact of the actual accident.

Dan sat in the quiet waiting room watching nurses run by in and out of emergency, doctors informing family about treatments, listening to the sobs escape his mouth. He watched Phil's door intensely waiting for someone to walk through with a smile on their face with good news just like they do in the movies but the door stayed closed, closing him off from what was going on within the room.

Dan waited for hours keeping his eyes glued to the door watching for any movement until finally the door open and Phil's mother walked out and headed straight for Dan.

"Any news?!" Dan questioned but she just stood with a blank expression on her face, Dan couldn't imagine what would be going through her mind at this point with her youngest son in hospital fighting for his life. Dan couldn't help but fling his arms around her and bring her close into a hug "He will get through this, he is strong" She tightens her grip as she hears the words come out of his mouth.

"Thank you Dan, for you know staying here waiting" Katherine looked up at Dan whose face was red from tears but so was hers. "The doctors say its best just to wait it out until he wakes up so he doesn't feel any of the pain he is experiencing at this point" She continues looking around through Phil's now open window staring at his cut and bruised face as he peacefully 'sleeps'.

"Mr Howell" the nurse says approaching the pair "You're right to see him now"

Dan almost pushes the nurse over as he rushes to Phil's room, Dan hasn't seen Phil since he left that night before the crash. Dan steps into the room and takes one look at his best friend lying almost lifeless on the bed, he would have thought he was dead if it wasn't for his chest rising and the beeping of all the machines he is connected to. Dan slowly walks over to the side of the bed where Phil's dad sat holding Phil's purple hand whispering little calming thoughts to himself. Dan couldn't stand it, seeing his friend like this all cut up, covered in blood and bruised it wasn't right. He turned around to walk out of the room until he bumped into Katherine

"I'ts okay Dan" She said placing her hand on her shoulder turning him so he could face Phil "He'll be okay"

Everyday Dan went to the hospital to visit Phil, told him stories about what their fans are up to as well as the latest memes that were across the internet, basically he told him everything, Phil's wounds slowly healed up and he looked better and better everyday, Dan just knew that he'll be able to hear Phil's voice again.

"How is he doing doctor?"

"He is doing just fine all his wounds are healing up great, his leg is a proper cast all that needs to happen now is for him to wake up" The doctor replied with a smile writing down on Phil's record before hanging it up on the back of the bed and walking out.

"Did you hear that Phil, you're going to be okay" Dan smiled feeling excited about being able to hang and make videos with his friend again.

BEEP BEEP BEEP

"CALL THE CODE!, his heart rate is dropping" Phil's doctor calls as they run back into the room followed by multiple nurses

Dan steps away to let the doctors do their job.

"There's internal bleeding near his heart! we have to act quickly" One of the doctors shouts, Dan couldn't make out which one with all the noises from the machines coming out at once

"Wait I thought you said he was going to be just fine a couple minutes ago" Dan shouts over the top of everyone.

Dan watches as Phil's heart rate drops lower and lower until there's just a flatline.

BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP

"NO!" Dan screams running towards Phil's bed

"Give me 10 volts" One doctor yell to a nurse holding defibrillators

"Don't leave me Phil"

"Somebody get him out of here"

"CLEAR!"

Two nurses grab a hold of Dan and try to pull him out of the room but Dan continues to resist, he wants to stay there with his friend to make sure he'll be okay.

"No! Let me go, i want to be there with him! Please!" Dan continues to plead breaking free from the grip of the nurses and races back into the room.

"Time of death- 11:43 am September 12"

Those words rung in Dan's ears.

"NO. you have to keep trying!" Dan yells running over to the doctors looking back at Phil " He isn't ready to leave yet, he is only 30 he has so much of his life ahead of him!"

"I'm sorry for your lose" Phil's doctor said before packing up their stuff and leaning Dan alone with Phil

"No...NO. NO!" He cried walking over to Phil's now lifeless body, grabbing his still slightly warm hand "Please Phil, don't leave me, I still need you, we still need you" Dan continues tears cascading down his cheeks falling onto Phil's arm, Dan throws himself onto Phil as the last of Phil's body heat leaves his body.

Both of Phil's parents come running into the room bursting into tears the minute they see their son and Dan lying over him in tears.

"Please no, not now Phil, you can't" They hear Dan whisper into Phil's hospital gown

Katherine slowly walks over to Dan "It'll be okay Dan" She assures him. She grabs Dan by the waist and tries to pull him off Phil but he wouldn't let go.

"NO! I can't let go, he can't be gone" Dan howls through his tears.

"I'ts time to let him go now Dan, he has gone to a happier place now" She said calmly as if she were talking to a toddler whose fish just died.

Dan fought back against everything that said Phil was dead as stayed put on Phil's chest until he was too tired to fight back anymore and let Phil's mother pull him off of Phil.

"Goodbye Phil" Dan said with his last drop of energy as the image of Phil slowly faded as he collapsed in Katherine's arms.

A/N: Hello my Little Charmamniacs, So that was the prequel to "The Edge" my previous short story, if you have not read that please go read it. Just a couple things: Yes, in the edge I did put Phil saying his mother pulled the plug well I changed that to suit this and the I love you at the beginning they were platonic because platonic love. Anyways as its currently 2 am I need sleep so until next chapter, Byeeee.
