Together Mike and I walk into the hospital hand in hand. This was the closest we had been since Catalina's birth and I could tell some of the nurses had noticed. Some looked jealous and others look relieved at the fact that together we were doing okay. I smile at them then we head straight to the NICU. The feeling of excitement rushed through the hair with a lively force. I held onto Mike's arms tightly as we walked and Mike rested his hand on mine.
As we get to the NICU Dr. Roseland walks out and smiles at me with a dorky smile on her face when she sees us. "Oh good, you're here. We just got Catalina in a fresh diaper and fed. She's ready to go and from what I'm guessing very excited." she says then Mike laughs and does a little dance.
"Of course she's excited! Our house is the shit." Mike says and I roll my eyes then smile like an idiot.
"Okay, so she's already in her car seat seeing as you guys left it here when she was born. All you do is one of you have to sign the papers and then you're free to go," she says and I clap. Mike squeezes me a bit tighter then I push him away and push him towards the desk.
"Go sign our daughter out," I say and he smiles at me then walks off. I take a deep breath then Dr. Roseland takes me into the room and I see Catalina laying in her car seat asleep. I smile and walk over to her and lightly grab her foot. "You're coming home with us today. You're gonna have your own room, a crazy family, and maybe a dog someday." I say to her then look at Dr. Rosland. She was sitting there smiling at me and I pull her into a huge. She hugs me back and I let out a long breath.
"I have to thank you. Mike and I wouldn't have gotten through this without you as our doctor. You were so amazing an walked us gently through all of this." I say and she smiles and nods her head.
"I did my best for your little girl and it seems that it's paid off," she says and I nod my head.
"It sure did," I whisper as I look back at Catalina. I slowly walk over to her again and I watch her sleep covered in blankets with no machines attached to her. This is all I have wanted and now I have it. She's here and she seems to be a happy baby.
"Are we ready to take her home yet?" Mike asks and I look back at him with a smile. He walks over to us and wraps his arms around me. He looks over my shoulder at our daughter then he squeezes me tighter. "Wow.... it's amazing to see her in a car seat and not just her little bed." Mike says and I nod my head. It's a different feeling.
"I don't know what you three are waiting for. Get out of here!" Dr. Roseland says and I look over at the Doctor and smile. She pats Mike on the back and walks off then I look at Mike and smile.
"We've got our daughter!" I say and he leans over and kisses me.
"Hell yeah, she's coming home."
