Chapter 2

I woke up to the sound of my stylists and manager creeping around my room. I pretended to be asleep, and watched what they were doing.

They were…taking stuff off my dressers, and night tables. I was confused and worried. Were they robbing me? I shifted around and they froze.

“She’s still asleep,” hissed Bernadette, and before they could scamper around again I yelled, “OH HELL I’M NOT!! WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU’RE DOING?!!?!”

They stared at me with wide eyes. I took a look at their hands, and saw that they were carrying photos of me and Justin… they were trying to get rid of them for me. I felt terrible.

“Oh…I’m so…sorry” I whispered, and collapsed back on my bed. Soon I felt someone next to me patting my back.

“It’s alright Rita, you didn’t know,” soothed a sweet Millie, who was a really nice manager of mine. I nodded carelessly, just wishing they’d go away.

But Millie took it upon herself to recite my day’s schedule each and every morning.

“Okay, at 10 a.m. you are going on The Ellen Show…”

“Hold it!” My head jerked up, and I stared at Millie’s gray eyes. “Why am I going on the show?”

Millie stared at me for a good while. When she realized I didn’t get the point she said, “Because of you and Justin dear… you know?”

Oh yeah Millie, I know. I remembered oh too well what happened a month ago. But I wasn’t ready to talk about it! I didn’t want to talk about it! It’s my business and no one can butt into my life!

I wanted to shriek this out loud. I wanted windows to break. I wanted Justin to break. But instead, I nodded again and placed my head between my legs.

“Moving on…” Millie continued. “Then, you are going to guest star on America’s Next Top Model…just filling in for Miss Banks today…at 1 p.m.” She pursed her lips and glared at me as I moaned.

I looked and her and said, “Oh come on! What is Tyra too busy? God!”

Millie shook her head at Bernadette, but she still continued. “Rita Calvin Somers. You are a young lady, 18 years old, yet you act like a child. Please get your act together.”

Normally I would’ve complained, but I was too drained to do it. So I straightened my back and I nodded.

“Good. Okie dokie, at 5 p.m. you have a book signing at the Plaza… a limo will be waiting outside to pick you up… Then you will have dinner at the Four Seasons at 8 p.m. sharp with Mr. Burton… he might want you for his next movie! Basically you have a free day.” She finished off. She smiled at me, waiting for a response.

A free day? Really woman? I have all but a free day!! I looked at her and smiled. It was a fake, but she took it. That was really all she was getting from me anyway, and she knew it.

She clapped her hands, causing me to wince. “Alright then! Bernadette, get Miss Somers something to eat! Uh, hair and make-up get your stations ready, Rita go and take a shower, Goodness! There’s your toast, go, go, go!”

I shoved the buttery toast down my throat, and hopped into the shower. I put heat on full blast with the turbo jets and cranked up my shower-radio on Kiss F.M., where More Than This was playing. Gosh, I loved that song. It even drowned out Millie’s voice as she banged on the door.

“IF I’M LOUDERRR, WOULD YOU SEE MEE?!” I yelled, my rough voice no where near comparable to their soft melodic ones. They were all so hot, but I never met any of them. Oh well. Being famous may have its perks, but sometimes it was a pain in the hole.

I bet they’d make better boyfriends than that scumbag Justin.

I rolled my eyes and tried to focus on my hair. Mmm, I loved Herbal Essences… what was the soap flavor? I laughed to myself as I read the caption in the funky looking bottle. Oh, mango paradise.

“AHHH!!! THERE’S SOAP IN MY EYE!!”I suddenly shrieked, and eventually salvaged my eyeballs. Oww…

I turned off the taps to see that the banging on the door stopped. I wrapped myself in a fluffy custom made towel, and left the bathroom. I entered my room.

There was Bernadette, armed with a hair dryer and a curling iron in each hand. I stifled a giggled, and sat in the spinney chair. And the roasting of my scalp began.

*One hour later*

“OK, you ready?” A man who was attaching a mike onto the front of my dress asked.

I smiled and nodded. I heard Ellen then say, “And now please welcome the adorable Rita Somers!!!”

The audience roared, and the butterflies in my stomach reproduced and had babies or something. It wasn’t my first time on Ellen, but I was still shaking.

I stepped out, and waved to everyone as I approached Ellen. I prayed I wouldn’t trip on my too- high heels.

I hugged Ellen who hugged me tightly back. “Sorry.” She whispered before pulling away.

(A/N I’m going to do this in interview form now.J)

Ellen: Rita! It’s been forever!

Me: I know! Thank you so much for having me!

Ellen: And you still look absolutely gorgeous! What’s your secret?!

Me: Ha-ha. Thank you so much!

Ellen: So, is it true you’re planning on working with Tim Burton?

Me: I would love to! He is very amazing and inspirational. I really do hope I can.

Audience cheers.

Ellen: I certainly hope so as well. So, tell us how you felt when you got a nomination for your film Pride?

Me: I was dumbstruck! So many other awesome people were nominated, like Jonah Hill, Charlize Theron, and Morgan Freeman. And I was like this little 18 year old from Florida got nominated for an Oscar? No way!

Audience laughs.

Ellen: Are you kidding? I was going to cry when Johnny died in that last scene!

Me: No way? Me and Ryan kept laughing and we had to do about a billion retakes!!

Audience laughs.

Ellen: Now Rita, some strange rumors have been going around… about you and Justin Bieber….

Me: Yeah, well, they’re not rumors. Me and Jus-Justin… have gone ours separate wa-ways.

Audience is silent.

Ellen: I prayed those rumors weren’t true. I am so sorry.

Me: Thank you.

*Awkward Silence*

Ellen: Okay, we have American Idol winner Phillip Phillips with us today, and will be performing right after the break. So stick around!

(A/N End interview form… hehe)

*12 p.m.*

“Okay Rita, I want you to pick one of these dresses for the show.” Millie pointed at three dresses that were carried by Bernadette. I really didn’t want to be a guest judge; I’d probably end up letting everyone win. But fudge it. I have to do this crap anyway.

I stared at the choices.  My choices were: red and sparkly, green and flow-y, blue and sophisticated. I’d have chosen something black and gloomy to match who I felt inside, but no.

I finally chose the green dress. You can’t go wrong with green.

Right?
