Here's the sequel to the past one-shot. I just really had to split them. So, enjoy!

Also, I think this is rather long for a one-shot but whatever.

A Tree Bears its Fruits (Sequel to The Monster Who Saved My Life)

(Maddy)

"Mommy, look!"

I run after Benjamin as he toddles his way to his mother who, as always, is sitting on a chair while staring out of the window.

"Bennie!" I exclaim as soon as I lifted him up from the floor. Troubled, I walk him out of the room and whisper, "You can't just walk up to your mommy like that without permission, okay?"

He frowns. "Why, Aunt Maddy?" he asks me with that adorable voice of his. "She my mommy, wight?"

I frown back. I just can't lie to this little two year-old wonder. I can't bend the truth with him, especially at his young age. "Well," I swallow, "Mommy's just... sick, okay?"

We step into the elevator and I let him push the living room floor button.

"Why mommy sick?" he asks. "Is Bennie bad boy?"

"No! It's not Bennie's fault, okay?" I assure him. "It's just that—"

I get interrupted when the doors open with a ding. Stepping out, I carry Bennie towards Steve, who's sitting on the couch. Bennie jumps down from my arms and lands carefully on the floor. Then, he runs to Steve.

"Hey, buddy!" Steve exclaims as he raises Bennie up. As soon as he's up in the air, the little toddler giggles bubbly, the only way toddlers giggle. The sight of Steve carrying Little Bennie just warms my heart. He's ready to be a father. But, he's always been a father to Bennie.

For two years, Steve and I have been Bennie's parents ever since Megan went... demented after giving birth to him. She was just so sad and depressed and hysterical throughout the days she was carrying him and I really got worried. What's even sadder was right after she gave birth to him; she wouldn't carry him or even look at him and I was worried that she might hurt Bennie if she got alone with the innocent precious child. Up until now, I'm still worried about her and since she's my best friend who I treated like a sister, I'm not gonna give up on her. She'll be fine and I promised her son that she will be.

"Who's uncle's little boy?" Steve exclaims with a huge amount of enthusiasm.

"Bennie is!" the little one answers optimistically, still raised on the air by Steve's hands.

Steve sets him down now and Benjamin starts playing with his blocks on the floor. He looks so adorable as he scratches his curly brown hair. I take a seat on the couch a few feet away from his play area and give out an exhausted sigh. Steve wraps an arm around my shoulders and pulls me close to lean on his chest.

"What's wrong?" he asks, completely concerned.

I sigh. "It's just..." I trail of since he already knows the answer.

"Megan?" I nod and sigh, again. He just soothingly rubs my shoulder and kisses the top of my head. "Look, hon, she will get better soon, okay?  We'll be able to help her. Just believe it."

With resentment in my eyes, I glare at him. "Steve, you always say that, you know? You tell me that everything's gonna be okay when I know it won't."
