Sting's perspective:
Sting had just gotten back from the guild even though it was getting pretty late. Everyone had stayed back longer to have a mini sort of party before the weekend, everyone except Rogue. He had seemed kind of distant that night and had left to go home early... Sting was starting to worry about him, although he didn't always show it he cared deeply for his fellow dragon slayer. He knew he was home since he had recognised his distinct scent as soon as he had stepped through the door.
Quietly he set his stuff down and took off his jacket and then headed towards Rogue's room. He hesitated outside the door for a moment, his hand on the door knob, debating on whever or not he should go in. Finally, with a determined look on his face he pushed the door open and marched in, only to be shocked at the sight he saw. The raven haired boy was curled up in the corner of his bed with his face buried in his arms, and an aura surrounded him of sadness and hurt. A muffled sound then came from him: "...Sting?" he asked.
Rogue's perspective:
Dark thoughts seemed to be constantly creeping into his mind recently, ones that he couldn't bear to listen to. He left the guild early that night as even just seeing the others seemed to set them off again and he needed to escape. The few hours he had had to himself after had seemed like days, with his mind taking over all he could do was curl up and try to endure the pain.
Then his senses picked up that Sting had just returned, the warm light scent of him comforted him, but also set of another wave of emotions, it was all he could do not to break down just here and then. He heard how as Sting had burst into the room he had stopped dead in his tracks, but Rogue wanted him here, with him. And so in a pleading voice he called out: "...Sting?"
Even without being asked Sting rushed over to him and sat down next to him on the bed, embracing him tightly as he felt scared to let go. Rogue rested his head on Sting's strong shoulders, almost allowing the tightness of his embrace to hold him up. He closed his eyes to try and enjoy this moment, the feeling of warmth around him, the sound of Sting's breathing beneath him, his light but strong scent that Rogue knew so well, so much that it hurt. As Sting pulled away amd rested his hands on Rogues shoulders Rogue found that he couldn't look him in the eye...
"What happened??" Sting demanded with a pleading sound in his voice. But Rogue couldn't say or even look at his face, suddenly he felt very distant from him, as if there was a barrier between them. Now was the chance to tell him what he had been feeling, to finally admit to what he was scared to. But should he? His thoughts were violently interrupted by Sting shaking him, startling him enough to put his head up and look up at his face with his concerned blue azul eyes.
Sting look fiercely at the other half of the twin dragon slayers, how although he usually had pale skin somehow it was even lighter, how his messy back hair fell across his face but how you could still see his striking scarlet eyes. They were the colour of blood, but held fear beyond anything Sting had seen before in Rogue. What is it that caused this? He desperately wanted to know, not just to cure his curiosity but because all he wanted from the bottom of his heart was to be able to help Rogue with whatever he was going through, as nothing pained him more than seeing him like this...
The glance between the 2 dragon slayers seemed to last for minutes, until finally Sting broke it by coming over to Rogue and sitting on his bed with him. Just like a shadow Rogue slipped in front of Sting, so that he was sitting in his lap but facing away from him so that Sting could only see the top of his thick black hair, and not his pained face. Slowly the blonde dragon slayers stroked his arm and wrapped an arm around his waist, "It's okay..." Sting whispered softly into his ear.
Finally Rogue opened up about the thoughts and feelings that had invaded his mind: "I see myself killing you..." He admitted gingerly. "The me of the future, I do terrible things to you and I take your life away. I couldn't bear to ever do that, but I see myself doing it, as a dark shadow covering your body extinguishing your light. And no matter how much I try to tell myself that will never happen I hear a voice that tells me that it will, that I will become that grotesque person that I saw, who I never want to be..." Rogue's head dropped down almost in shame at what had been disturbing him, with only the strong hand of his fellow twin dragon slayer keeping him in this reality there and then. Since he felt that at any moment he could easily drift away...
Sting held the dark figure before him closely, feeling the fear that he felt and being able to hear his heartbeat quicken with anticipation of Stings reaction. "That's never going to happen," Sting whispered to him, "That may have been the future before, but it isn't anymore. We can change and choose the future. And right now, I want the future to be you staying by my side, always." Rogues eyes widened at hearing Stings response. "And I am going to make sure that happens." Sting replied more confidently this time. Rogue wasn't sure what he had expected of Stings reaction, but hearing those words, and feeling the strength of his arms around him gave Rogue strength.
Stings Perspective:
I was unsure on how effective my reassurance was, but nothing I had said had been a lie, I believed in every single word I said. Then below me I noticed Rogue turning to look at me, with tears filling his eyes.
