"Koda, did you take my daggers again?" I asked my little brother. "No Fina, you left them in the bell tower again," Koda replied without even looking at me. Our yells were what most people would call their inside voices. We were wanted by every police officer in the township so we tried to keep our little church hidden away from the world. Meaning no lights, no sounds, no ground level entrance. The only way in was a broken window on the 2nd floor, accessible only by jumping to the ledge from the tree next to the building. To us, it was no problem but for anyone else, one wrong step would be your last.

After 6 years we learned to love the darkness, we embraced it. To us, the shadows were our allies and the lights our enemies. We adopted over the years to the constant darkness to the point that we can see in the dark as if we had night vision. Our bodies also adjusted to the time, we would get tired at dawn and would sleep until dusk. No one could touch us.

The year was 2073 and we were done with our training. Koda and I were about to head out for our nightly routine. First, we break into one of the restaurants to help ourselves to what was left in the kitchen. Next, we headed to one of the local clothing stores to do a bit of midnight 'shopping'. It was hard to find clothes when you only wear black but we made it work. A change of clothes now and again was nice. We got a new piece of clothing every night, taking only one thing so that no one would notice. Lastly, we hit up a few houses on our way home. We always take simple things some would call it childish. We take coloring books, stuffed animals, toys, snacks, pillows, and blankets. We once even stole a whole mattress that we still, to this day, share. We had been doing that same routine for years but that one day in July everything changed. We were hitting up a few houses on our way home. We already had a few items from the other houses but Koda insisted on hitting that last house, I couldn't say no to him. We headed for the house. It was small, one story and the outside was painted a dark blue. We went around to the back searching for an open window but instead to our luck, we found the back door to be unlocked. Once inside the layout was relatively simple to navigate. The kitchen was straight in front of us. To the north was the living room and connected to that the bedrooms. To the west was a large room full of toys. We both began to rummage through the piles of old toys and board games putting what looked interesting in our satchels. Everything was going smoothly until we heard "Who are you?" come from someone behind us. The voice was quiet and a little pitched it came from a young male, a teen, we both turned to see him standing in the doorway looking at us, more like looking at me. The room was pitch black, he could only see one figure in the darkness, mine. To him, I was the only one there and Koda was just a shadow.

I looked at the boy, not much older than me, and said: "No one, go back to bed and forget this ever happened." I signaled to Koda and he started to move towards the window in the back of the room. He went unnoticed. The boy continued to stare at me in silence. Finally, he spoke, "Why are you here? What do you want from me?" Unable to answer I reached for my dagger. As I began to unclip the holder Koda shook his head at me. I left it alone. "I got what I came for so I will be on my way now." I began to move towards Koda who had gotten the window open. As we sat on the window sill a car drove by the boy got one good look at us. The only things showing was our eyes and a few strands of our hair. A pair of emerald green eyes and sky blue eyes glowed, our hair platinum almost white peeked through our black cloaks and masks. That was all the boy saw before we disappeared into the darkness.

Once we got back to the church we just sat in silence trying to process what just happened

Once we got back to the church we just sat in silence trying to process what just happened. Was he already awake or did we make noise and woke him up? Those were two questions we could never answer. The next day when we were awoken by someone yelling for someone else to get off their property. It came from the old man that lived in the small trailer down the road. He was the only person that lived near the church. We were a good half a mile away from the main town. I climbed to the bell tower to get a look at who he was yelling at and I couldn't believe who I saw. It was the same boy from last night. He was asking if the old man had seen two kids and he was describing me and my brother very vaguely. Why was he trying to find us? Is he mad that we broke into his house? What will he do to us if he finds us? The boy looking utterly defeated started to walk back to town. I think I will pay him a visit tonight.

It's about 10:30 and the world is cloaked in darkness. I left the church without a sound, not wanting my brother to follow. I ran down the road by the forest edge heading towards the town. I took a shortcut through the woods I emerged a few houses down from my destination.

I finally arrived at his house. As I approached I listened closely to see if anyone was awake inside. There wasn't a single sound coming from inside. I went in through the back door again. They really need to learn to lock it. I walked around the house looking for his room. I remembered the layout of the house and found it relatively fast.

When I walked into the room I approached his bed. He appeared to be asleep. I pulled back the cover to find only pillows. I heard the door shut behind me and the lights flicked on. I quickly turned around to see him standing there. "I was expecting you. I didn't think you would come back so soon though," he said staring at me blank faced. I quickly leaped back onto his bed and grabbed my daggers. With them, in hand, I growled out through gritted teeth "What do you want from me?" he smirked and said "Your name."

I couldn't believe what I was hearing. "You locked me in here just so you could know my name?" He smiled again and replied "Yes." I quickly thought of a fake name. He asked me again "What's your name?" I replied without hesitation "Sam." "That's a pretty name." Is he flirting? I can't figure this guy out. "I'm Julien, you don't have to be so tense. I'm not going to hurt you." I quickly looked around hoping to see a way out but there was none. "Relax, would you?" I gave in. I put my daggers away and sat cross-legged on his bed facing him. "There you go. Better?" I just nodded my head. He grabbed his desk chair and pulled it up in front of his bed. He started asking me a bunch of questions. I felt like I was in an interrogation. I sat there quietly and just nodded my head yes or no to his questions. It seemed like there was no end to them. I eventually dozed off due to waking up too early today.

I woke up to see sunlight shining into the room. I was still in his house.I quickly sprung to my feet and ran out the door. As I ran for the door I felt arms wrap around and grab me. "Where do you think you're going?" It was him. He set me down on the couch and told me not to try anything, that's when I realized... I was his prisoner.

He walked into the room with some food and for the first time, I had a good look at him. He had dark brown hair, almost black, brown eyes and tan skin. His hair was a mess and for a moment he looked kinda cute. What am I saying?! He is holding me hostage. What is he doing to me? I need to get out of here!

It's almost night and I'm exhausted but I must stay awake. I waited for him to fall asleep then I made a run for the door. I can reach it, it's so close. I placed my hand on the doorknob and began to slowly open the door as to not make noise. I finally got the door open and made a run for it but as I was about to jump the fence I felt someone grab my leg. I fell backward and hit the ground hard. I struggled to breathe. As I layed there on the ground I saw him hovering over me with a disappointed look on his face. I was too weak and tired to put up a fight so I just let him carry me inside.

I woke up not remembering when I fell asleep. I looked around to see I was still in that boy's house. Speak of the devil he is sitting across the room in a recliner. I knew at that moment all attempts to escape were nonvoid. It looks like I'll be waiting for a rescue. Koda where are you?
