Chapter 16

Shutting my locker at the end of Wednesday, I turn around to see a happy looking Luke.

"Hi." I smile. As the halls clear out a little more, he pulls me into a quick hug. So far we've kind of kept our relationship a secret, stealing small kisses from each other when nobody was looking, or something of the sort, but I think we both knew what kind of rumors would start going around if we made it official and 'out in the open'. It was like a silent agreement.

"So, I have something to ask you, but not just yet." He says as we walk out to his car.

"So you just intentionally made me curious because you're a butt?" I ask, a small smile on my face.

"I must be the hottest butt you've ever seen then." He smirks, and we get into the car as a blush dusts my cheeks.

"Anyways, we have to go somewhere before I can ask you this question."

"And that would be?"

"It's a surprise."

"You're being annoying." I say, and cross my arms over my chest. A light laugh escapes him as his hand reaches for mine. He intertwines our fingers and continues to drive.

"You love me." He smiles.

"I'd love you more if you'd tell me where we're going." I smile innocently.

"No you wouldn't."

"And why's that?"

"Because," He says as he stops at a red light, "that's impossible." He finishes and then quickly leans over and pecks my lips.

"Can I take this stupid thing off now?" I ask, annoyed.

"Hey, that stupid thing just happens to be the bandana that I wore when the baseball team won playoffs last year." He says defensively.

"Okay can I take this smelly stupid thing off now? I wanna see where we're going." I pout as Luke continues to lead me God knows where.

"No, I told you, you have to wait." He tsks. I roll my eyes even though its covered my the bandana, and then my face connects with something hard.

I tumble back into Luke, "Fuck." I mumble, rubbing my nose.

"Sorry, I wasn't watching." He apologizes.

"Yeah, yeah." I feel his hands around my waist again after that, guiding me somewhere unknown.

"Luke, we drove for an hour and a half, and we've been walking for a long time, where the hell are we going?" I ask impatiently.

"We're almost there." He assures me.

"Can you at least tell me where we are?" He asks.

"Nope."

"Luke-" My words are cut off by another pair of lips, and warmth spreads through my body.

"Shh." He whispers when he pulls away. I can't help the little smile that's on my face as he continues to guide me wherever we're going.

Then finally the ground under me changes into something soft.

"We're here." Luke whispers in my ear, and slips the blindfold off me. My eyes fall onto a small table, draped with a white table cloth. A small vase holds a candle, and two chairs surround the table. Just a few feet away the lake water laps at the sand, creating a sense of serenity.

I turn around with a shy smile on my face, "You really like picnics by the lake, don't you."

His face turns to one of worry, "If you don't like it we can go somewhere else, I didn't want to force this on you so we can-" I cup his face in my hands and bring his lips down on mine, kissing him softly and gently.
