chapter twenty five

Annie's POV
Kenzie was curling my hair for this 'special function' while Lauren was doing my makeup. "Guys, I don't think I've ever looked this nice." I said, looking at myself in the mirror.

"Well girl, wait till Hayden sees you." Kenzie said releasing a curl. "Hayden?" I asked. Lauren kicked Kenzie in the shin. "I mean like, when I uh, send a picture to him! Yeah..." Kenzie said unsure of her self.

They continued pampering me until they finished. I stood up and walked to the mirror. I examined every inch of my body. This isn't me, but it's the new me.

I turn around and see Kenzie nodding and Lauren trying to hold in a squeal. After a gas seconds of quite, we all squeal and jump around. I think I've found my best friends.

"Wait! Put this on." Lauren said handing me a white masquerade mask. I put it on and so do Lauren and Kenz, except theirs are black.

Hayden's POV
Everyone was here and just waiting for Annie. We all planned to tell surprise when she gets here. It's a very formal party, so at first I didn't think surprise was the right word.

Kenzie shot me a text saying that they are on their way.

Annie's POV
"Put this blind fold on." Lauren said handing me a handkerchief. "What, are you trying to kidnap me?" I giggled. I put it on and Kenzie drove away.

Once I felt the car stop, Lauren helped me out and guided me. "Lauren, I'm going to trip in these heels." I said trying to keep my balance. "Oh hush." She said.

I heard a door open and Lauren helped me get though. Someone untied my blindfold and all I saw was a dark room.

"Um why-" "SURPRISE!" I heard a bunch of people say. Before I knew it, there were a whole lot of people wearing masks, dressed in black and white. The banner read:

Happy 19th Birthday Annie!
Welcome to your masquerade party!

I smiled and hugged Lauren and Kenzie. "Who planned all of this?!" I asked with a huge grin across my face. Lauren smiled and pointed behind me.

I turn around and see a guy in a black mask with a fancy suite. Even underneath that mask i knew it was Hayden. I smiled and gave him a huge hug. "Thank you so much." I whispered into his ear.

We pulled away from the hug. "Let's go Anns!" Lauren said linking my arm. I looked at Hayden and he smiled as an approve to go.

Lauren, Kenzie and I found a table to just sit and talk. This is truly the best birthday ever.

"Attention ladies and gents, we will now be having the midnight moon dance. If you would kindly join us on the ball floor." The dj said.

Johnny came to our table. "Happy birthday Annie! But I'm going to steal Kenzie away for the dance." He winked. Kenzie giggled and blushed. She went away with Johnny.

"So Laur, interest in anyone yet?" I asked. "Well, there is this one guy. His name is-" before Lauren could tell me, I got a y'all on shoulder. There stood a masked man. Definitely not Hayden.

"May I have this dance?" He asked in a Australian accent. I looked at Lauren and she nodded. "Sure." I smiled. He grabbed my hand and we walked to the dance floor.

I placed one of hands on his shoulder and the other one in his hand. He did the same except his hand was on my waist.

Hayden's POV
I was looking for Annie but I couldn't find her. I looked around until I saw Lauren sitting down at a table by herself.

"Hey lolo, are you okay?" I asked her. "Oh, yeah. Just waiting for the dance to be over." She laughed. "Have you seen Annie?" I asked. She had a hesitant face. "Um, well, she's dancing with a stranger." She said.

I felt anger rise in me but I didn't show it. Lauren pointed to Annie and another guy dancing. She had a smile in her face and was giggling.

After the dance finished she walked over here. "Oh hey Hay." She smiled. I forced a smile and I think she noticed. "Are you okay Hayden?" Annie asked titling her head a little. "Yeah. I'm fine." I said sternly.

Annie's POV
Hayden walked off and I was a little hurt and confused. I sat down next to Lauren. "Anyway, who was that guy you were dancing with?" Lauren asked. "Well, I asked for his name and he said 'no names and faces revealed until midnight.'" I said.

"And who was that guy you like?" I asked smirking at Lauren. She blushed. "Oh, his name is Harvey." Lauren said blushing harder. "Awww! You're so cute Lauren." I giggled.

"Hey, by the way Hayden sounded pretty upset when you danced with that dude. You should dance with him at the midnight dance when we do the mask reviling." Lauren said. I nodded and went to go look for him.

I looked around until I saw him talking with Kenzie and Johnny. "Hayden, can I talk to you?" I asked. He turned around and nodded. We walked to a hallway.

"Are you mad at me?" I asked, avoiding eye contact. "What? Of course not Annie. Why would I be mad?" Hayden said in a comforting voice. He lifted my chin up so our eyes met.

I nervously laughed. "Cause I danced with that guy." He stayed silent for a few seconds. "Well, why should I be mad if your mine." He smiled. I smiled back and gave him a hug.

He kissed my cheek which gave me butterflies. "Now, go enjoy your party." He smiled. I gave another hug before I rushed back to Lauren.

She had the biggest grin on her face. "Lauren? You okay? You look like an emoji." I laughed. "Remember Harvey? Well, he was the guy you were dancing with and now he wants to dance with me for the midnight dance!" Lauren squealed.

I smiled. I'm really happy for Lauren. She has such a fun, preppy attitude that everyone has to love.

Everyone's been enjoying the party so far. The dj called couples to the midnight dance. "May I?" A familiar voice asked. I turned around and saw Hayden with his hand out.

I smiled and took his hand. "You may." We walked to the dance floor and began dancing. It's as if their was nothing else in the world besides me and Hayden. I got lost in his eyes and forgot where I was. All I saw was perfection.

"And for the unmasking of the evening, on the count of three, everyone will remove their masks." The dj said. "1, 2, 3!" Everyone removed their masks and dropped them on the floor.

"I've been dying to see your beautiful face." Hayden smiled. I laughed and pulled him off the dance floor. "Thank you so much Hayden." I said giving him a hug. "Anytime." He said hugging me back. I gave him a kiss on the cheek and we walked to Lauren and Harvey.

"So, you must be Harvey. I'm Annie." I smiled. "I'm harvey." He said. We shook hands. "I'm Hayden. I see you're my friends boyfriend?" Hayden teased. Lauren and Harvey's cheeks went bright red.

I smacked Hayden and pulled him into a hallway. "What are we doing here?" He asked. "What do you think?" I grinned.

I kissed him, passionately. I could feel him smile through the kiss and I was too. Am I changing? I feel like I'm going past my boundaries. Hayden moved his hands down to my waist and lightly pushed me against the wall. I wrap my hands around his neck.

Our moment was soon ruined by "Ahem!" Someone fake coughed. I pushed Hayden off me and saw Caleb standing their not looking very pleased.

"Care to explain why you were eating my sisters face off?" Caleb said. "Caleb!" I said annoyed. "Sorry Anns. By the way mom, Hayley and I are leaving tonight sadly. He frowned.

I ran to Caleb and gave him a tight squeeze. "I'll miss you." I sniffed. He hugged back, stroking my hair. "Hey, don't worry. It's not the last time you'll see me." Caleb said.

I smiled and pulled away. Hayley and my mom soon came into the hallway. I gave Hayley a tight hug and my mom too.

"We're proud of you love." My mom said, pushing back my hair and placed her soft hand on my cheek. I let a tear roll down and nodded. After they left Hayden gave me a warm hug and comforted me.

Today's been a long day.
