🐎Chapter 1🐎
I was nervous, I didn't know when they would arrive. But I did know that human inspectors were coming to pick horses for the army. You see, im one of the animals that pay attention to humans. I know what they mean when they talk, and I know what their food looks like and the food names! Thats how I know about the army. But not so much what they use, like different sized metal rectangles that blaze light and sometimes produce music. But back on the subject. The inspectors are going to pick the best looking, fastest, strongest, and most athletic! Im pretty much all of them. But I probably wont get picked because I'm a female Friesian. And for those who don't know, Friesians are black. My name is Feathers, I know laugh all you want, its a stupid name. My plan, so I don't get picked, just in case, is to roll in mud, grass, and possibly food. How I will do that, is simple. In the middle of the day, I will sneak outside and roll in all of those things. The only problem is, I can open my stall door but not the barn doors. Humans put a huge lock on the doors after I got out with a couple of friends! I heard the barn doors open suddenly! I knew that there were two humans, but I didn't know exactly who they were. They were talking.
" So this is about my mares?" A male human asked.
" Yes, I went to the army base and we wanted to change the rules a little." A loud voice boomed. "We wanted to also pick some of your young mares." That made my ears flick closer in their direction.
" So are you going to ask or just talk about it?" The male human said.
" Oh sorry, are we allowed to pick some mares and geldings?"
" I suppose." The human male grumbled.
The barn door closed and there was a big sigh!
The manager came over and petted my nose.
" Do you want to be in the army girl?"
I snorted and shook my head!
" Is that a no?"
I stared at him until he gave me one last pat and walked out.
The next day I was ready to roll in mud, grass, and food. I opened my stall door with ease. I creeped towards the barn door, I found the bar that held the doors together. I bit part of it and moved it of. The wood bar tumbled to the ground. I pushed open one door and poked my head out. There was no one in sight, good news. I walked out into the meadow. I was glad it rained last night so there was mud and wet grass everywhere. I picked a big puddle and jumped in. The mud splattered over my legs and hooves. I started to roll around in the wet mud. After a couple minutes, I got up and examined myself. I was gross! Then I went straight for the grass, I rolled and stepped on the grass till I was disgusting! I looked back and saw a couple of inspectors. I galloped towards the barn. I pushed open the door and went into my stall. Next to me was my friend Star, she was an Appaloosa.
" Are you alright?" She asked
" Yeah I'm fine, I just want to look bad so I wont get picked to go into the army!" I explained.
" Okay then!" She whispered. The barn door got pushed open and two inspectors walked in with Tom the Manager. The two men started walking from stall to stall. At each stall they mumbled to each other and wrote something on their clipboard. I got more nervous each time they got a stall closer. They reached Star's stall and I heard them talking.
" Very good posture, and good speed and stamina." The tall man said.
"But not the best strength." The second man said in a deep voice. Star looked at me and her eyes said, "That was scary." The men moved over to me.
" Wow, oh my." The second exclaimed
" Tom, Does she always look like this?" Tom hurried over and almost yelled!
