It was her fault.
It was her own fault that she was forced to run off from her little home in her district.
Because of the adventurous side of her that so many people had wanted so badly to kill off. She had sneaked out one night - one measily night, and only for a few insignificant hours - to see what the world was like, beyond those tall walls that kept her suppressed and increasingly isolated from what could be waiting for her on the other side; adventure, inner peace, but most importantly...her freedom.
But her mistake was bringing attention to herself as she ventured farther and farther from home. As far as she knew, the titans were destroying her home, and extinguishing her family members, either one by one, or all together. She didn't want to know yet how they would perish. But now is not the time to think.
It's time to run.
~~
She's been running for too long. She was still bloody and bruised from the collapsing of buildings, from the being knocked around by the panicking people, from the overall fear that caused her, herself, to panic and try to get out. Her lungs burned, and she felt as if she were set on fire. She didn't know where she was, nor where she was going; but as long as she was away from the titans, and away from the destruction of her home district, she was fine.
The trees surrounding her were unfamiliar; a mysterious, yet comforting place, consoling her, yet somehow igniting her fears and slowly sending her into another frenzy of panic. She attempted to stay silent as best as she could; the only sounds coming from her, now, was the soft clicking of the pebbles that she stepped on, her bare feet beginning to get bloody from the friction, and that of the ragged breaths she took as she rapidly slowed down. When she heard a loud boom, she looked up, and her porcelain eyes widened. Not too far away, towering over the trees, was a titan.
She stumbled back as the revolting thing stepped closer, ignorant to her very existance, not that it was intelligent enough to know of her existance, to know of her name and everything about her.
It was a titan; it's soul purpose was only to kill and destroy humans, and for humans to kill it in return. It towered above her, quiet, but yet, hardly attempting to stay quiet, for every movement was loud, whether it be a movement of the neck, taking a step, or simply swinging it's disgusting arm.
All she could do at the moment was stare in a perfect, yet imperfect mixture of fear, amazement, and anger at the creature. She heard the pounding of hooves a distance away, and a chorus of buzzing sounds. She looked all around, wondering what made that sound, hoping for an answer.
The only response she received was the angered roar of the titan far above her, and the swing of its large arm.
She shielded herself, waiting for the pain to come, waiting for her impending death...
...until she felt the caress of the wind as she flew through the air, the first sign of freedom, joined with the feel of an arm encircling her waist. . She curiously looked up, only to see a glimpse of straight, silky, black hair that fluttered with the wind. Before she knew it, she was set on the branch of the nearest tree, where something was tied over her eyes, and a voice whispered in her ear, "Don't move,"
In truth, she was too frightened and exhausted to move; her legs and arms ached, her feet bled, and her heart was close to thumping straight out of her chest. There were too many things happening all at once, and she found herself unable to focus. She felt too weak, to tired to pay attention. She faded in and out of consciousness, slowly fading through the veil that separates the world of the living and the dead, the place where angels gather to sing, and the place where a man can murder a woman, but later repent.
